A decisive part of any selection process is the quality of the application documents of candidates: the CV, Cover Letter, Statement of Interest, etc. Knowing how to properly craft these is essential to get to the next stage of competitive selection processes like the ones at the UN. Our event is your chance to improve them and succeed at your next application!
At the first day, you will:
– Understand UN Staff Categories, Job Families and Networks;
– Discover the different types of selection processes at the UN;
– Get to know the different UN Recruitment Platforms.
There will also be two practical activities: 1) a game with questions about the content of the session and;
2) a challenge where participants will have to find a job opening in the UN System that fits their profile.
At the second day, you will:
– Learn the main differences between a CV and a Resumé;
– Understand how to tailor your CV/resumé for a UN internship/job opportunity;
– Understand how to craft a Cover Letter/Statements of Interest for a UN vacancy.
During the lecture, a sample of a strong resumé and cover letter submitted for a UN job opening will be presented and compared with a resumé and cover letter from a volunteering participant.
At the third day, you will:
– Understand about UN’s Interview Model;
– Get tips on how to perform well at this decisive stage of a selection process.
Participants will experience a mock interview simulating what happens in a real UN interview. They will answer questions often asked in selections processes and will subsequently discuss their performance with their peers and coaches.
At the fourth day, you will:
– Understand about the Assessment Center;
– Get tips on how to perform well at this decisive stage of a selection process.
Participants will be asked to solve a problem relevant to international development. After working in teams, each group will have about 5-10 minutes to share their results. At the end, the assessors will provide feedback to each team in order to better prepare them for real group exercises.
