UN Foundation Overview

What are the fields of study required for the UN Foundation Internship?

This internship program includes students and recent graduates from the most diverse fields of knowledge. The areas of study with the highest demand in this program are:

What are the tasks performed by the selected for the UN Foundation Internship?

  • Carry out research in themes relevant to the department;
  • Draft and review documents, publications, etc;
  • Prepare presentations, graphs, tables, etc;
  • Take part in training, meetings and events with other members of the agency;
  • Help in the maintenance and administration of technological equipment;
  • Assist in managing the agency’s information;
  • Compile and update information in databases;
  • Contribute to specific projects;
  • Help in the communication strategy of the agency (social media management, elaborating campaign materials, organizing events, etc).

What is the duration of the UN Foundation Internship?

The duration of the internship is up to 6 months.

What is the weekly workload of the UN Foundation Internship?

The agency offers part-time and full-time internships (up to 40 hours per week).

When does the UN Foundation Internship start?

The initial date of the internship shall be coordinated between the intern and the organization.

Subsequent employment:

  • Be enrolled in a graduate school program (Master’s or PhD), or;
  • Have graduated from an undergraduate or graduate course in the last 8 months.

Proficiency in English is required. Knowledge of another language in the UN System (Arabic, Chinese, Russian, French and Spanish) may be an advantage in the selection process.

The selection process generally comprises the following steps:

  1. Submitting the application;
  2. Evaluation of the application;
  3. Competency-based interview;
  4. Selection notifications.

How is the UN Foundation Internship Program interview?

Usually, only selected applicants will be contacted for the interview, which lasts about 30 minutes and may be done via Skype or phone. The main points covered in the interview vary according to the opening and department chosen.
