WIPO Jobs - Searching Job Opportunities

Interested and qualified applicants should search WTO’s job opportunities page for vacancies at the organization. Candidates must submit the relevant and required information and documents for each position they are interested in. It is highly advised that candidates read the job description carefully before they start the process.

The WTO Secretariat employs more than 600 staff from around 80 WTO member countries. The roles available at the organization include dispute settlement lawyers, legal officers, trade policy analysts and specialists, research economists and statisticians. Other roles include press officers, translators and interpreters, professionals in finance, IT, HR, among others.

WTO Jobs - Interview

After applicants pass the screening phase of a WTO selection process, they will then be contacted to take part in either an assessment or interview or both to determine the right candidate for the job.

To exemplify WTO’s interview mechanisms, we have used the WTO’s internships interview stage below. Note that other opportunities at the WTO may vary slightly from this in terms of how the interview is conducted.

How is the WTO Internship interview?

Usually, only selected applicants will be contacted for the interview, which lasts about 30 minutes and may be done via Skype or phone. The main points covered in the interview vary according to the opening and department chosen. In general, however, the questions address subjective or behavioral aspects, such as your expectations about the job, your interests in the area of expertise you are applying for and your previous experiences.

WTO Jobs - Salary and benefits

The WTO offers attractive salaries equivalent to the base salary for the employee’s grade. Each grade has a salary range, with an annual increase based on employee performance. The organization’s salary scale is adjusted annually based on salary movements in other comparable IGOs. The WTO also rewards performance through an annual pensionable salary increase (knows as salary increment) and through a performance reward (a bonus), which is not regarded as pensionable.

Dependency allowances are available for staff members who have a dependent spouse. WTO also provides its own mandatory social security system. Other benefits include: Separation grant, Death grant, Legitimation card, privileges and immunities, On-site facilities and Leave provisions.
