Durable Solutions Assistant
Organizational Setting and Work Relationships
The Durable Solutions Assistant reports to a Durable Solutions Associate or Officer.
The incumbent provides clerical and administrative support to durable solutions operations. S-he maintains frequent contacts with colleagues within the same Office to exchange information. External contacts are mainly with implementing partners for the purpose of managing the logistics of the durable solution activities.
All UNHCR staff members are accountable to perform their duties as reflected in their job description. They do so within their delegated authorities, in line with the regulatory framework of UNHCR which includes the UN Charter, UN Staff Regulations and Rules, UNHCR Policies and Administrative Instructions as well as relevant accountability frameworks. In addition, staff members are required to discharge their responsibilities in a manner consistent with the core, functional, cross-functional and managerial competencies and UNHCR’s core values of professionalism, integrity and respect for diversity.
Duties
– Assist in identifying and registering candidates for voluntary repatriation and prepare documentation for their return, in line with Voluntary Repatriation SOPs.
– Assist in identifying and registering candidates for local integration and prepare the appropriate documentation for onward submission to local authorities or partners, in line with Local Integration SOPs.
– Participate in identifying resettlement needs of refugees, in line with Resettlement SOPs.
– Assist in updating the electronic databases for resettlement, voluntary repatriation and local integration, in line with Standard Operating Procedures.
– Process documentation to ensure that persons of concern receive the documents required for their durable solutions in a timely manner.
– Prepare statistical and ad-hoc reports to ensure accurate information is available and shared with relevant offices and partners.
– Prepare documents relating to durable solutions.
– Enter information into available databases, in line with SOPs.
– Support the identification and management of risks and seek to seize opportunities impacting objectives in the area of responsibility. Ensure decision making in risk based in the functional area of work. Raise risks, issues and concerns to a supervisor or to relevant functional colleague(s).
– Perform other related duties as required.

Desired Candidate Profile
The desired candidate should have experience working with refugees, delivering protection, as well as experience in liaising with key stakeholders to collect information, monitor protection standards and promote the implementation of durable solutions for recognised refugees. S/he shall be able to work as part of a team in a diverse work environment and deal with multiple tasks and short deadlines in a courteous manner. Excellent communication, coordination and team work skills are required and very good computer literacy and drafting skills are essential. Fluency in English and Greek is required and knowledge of languages spoken by the refugees would be considered an asset.

Nature of Position:
Currently, some 105,000 asylum-seekers and refugees are hosted in Greece. In 2023, over 48,700 people arrived either by sea or land. UNHCR provides expert advice to the State and evidence-based information that helps inform programmes and policies for asylum-seekers and refugees. Access to international protection, identifying durable solutions and support to vulnerable asylum-seekers and refugees, such as unaccompanied children and survivors of gender-based violence, are UNHCR’s key priorities. UNHCR also works with national and local authorities, the private sector, civil society and refugee communities to advance protection solutions and inclusion, develop support networks and create employability and training opportunities for refugees. The Office retains a readiness to respond to emergencies and new arrivals, with a focus on immediate support to the most vulnerable. UNHCR Greece plays a strong advocacy role since continued support is needed, particularly from EU countries and EU institutions in providing immediate protection to those most at-risk through sufficient resources, ensuring capacity in the country and responsibility-sharing. UNHCR will continue to assist Greek authorities in responding to both short and long-term challenges.
The Durable Solutions Assistant reports to the Head of Field Office. S/he contributes to the implementation of durable solutions in the area of responsibility of Field Office Samos, focusing on local integration. S/he works closely with Protection and Field staff within Field Office Samos and collaborates with the Solutions team within the Country Office and relevant results managers, as needed. S/he supports monitoring of activities implemented by UNHCR partners on Samos island in the area of local integration, communicates regularly and provides guidance and support to the partner’s staff as per need. The Durable Solutions Assistant actively engages in information provision to forcibly displaced persons residing on Samos, in the preparation of information material, as well as in the organization of events aiming at enhancing refugees’ local integration. Regular performance of tasks at Samos Closed Controlled-Access Centre is required, while presence in other field locations may be requested. The incumbent also performs other protection activities and tasks upon request and under the Head of Office’s coordination, in line with UNHCR Greece strategic priorities.
Living and Working Conditions:
Samos is a family duty station, classified as H by ICSC. Public Transportation and medical facilities are well-developed and easily accessible. The climate can be described as Mediterranean, with hot and dry summers and cool and mild winters.
In accordance with UNDSS security risk assessment, the whole Greek operation is classified as Security Level 2 (low). Security Clearance is required for travelling in the country.
