What is Goal 4 of the SDGs?

The fourth Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) is aimed at ensuring inclusive and quality education for all and promoting lifelong learning. Through this goal, the scope of education access targets are well beyond primary education.

Education being a human right, the fact that nowadays more than 262 million children and youth are out of school is certainly startling. The roadmap to achieve the education goal provides guidance to governments and partners on how to turn commitments into action and UNESCO is the UN agency responsible for coordinating the international community to achieve this goal.

What is the importance of the education SDG?

Education is the central SDG that will allow many other SDGs to be achieved. When people are able to get quality education they can break away from the cycle of poverty.

Then, education is helpful in reducing inequalities and reaching gender equality. It also functions to empower people everywhere to live more healthy and sustainable lives.

Finally, education is fundamental to fostering tolerance between people and it contributes to more peaceful societies.
