Most selection processes of the World Bank Group require candidates to upload their Curriculum Vitae (CV) onto an online platform. The recruiting team will use this document to gain an initial impression of the candidate’s competencies, professional experience and academic qualifications, and to evaluate the suitability of their profile according to what is required for the position and organization.
It is true that the selection team’s main concern is finding curriculum vitae, which have the qualifications, experience and competencies required. However, disorganized and badly-prepared curriculum vitae may leave a negative impression on the assessor. On the other hand, organized and aesthetically appealing curriculum vitae may attract the assessor’s attention.
With that in mind, we will now give you 5 tips on how to make your CV aesthetically attractive for the recruiting team.
World Bank CV Visual Aspects
- A legible font: use standard fonts (such as Times New Roman, Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, Verdana and Calibri), preferably in size 11 or 12. Avoid using different colors and types of fonts throughout the curriculum;
- Sizes: the Letter or A4 portrait formats are recommended. Pay attention to the margin spacing, always leaving room for these;
- Using a photo: they should only be used if requested. In the case of the Word Bank, there is no need to include a photo on your CV;
- Highlights in bold, italics and underlining: using these resources is a good way of organizing curriculum elements and information. For example, the main curriculum headings can be highlighted in bold. However, care must be taken to avoid excessive use of these resources, which could create visual pollution; and,
- Visual elements: avoid inserting images on your CV and use visual resources with care. These elements produce visual pollution on the document, as well as leaving an informal impression of the candidate. Basic text editing resources are enough to make your curriculum organized and well-presented.
With these tips, your World Bank CV Visual Aspects will certainly be solved and you’ll be one step closer to passing this stage of the selection process!
