What is Goal 10 of the SDGs?
The tenth goal of the SDGs is aimed at reducing inequalities within and among countries, which is a statement as to the national and international prioritization of addressing and remedying discrimination and unequal statuses in order to allow for a more productive and just society.
What is the importance of the reducing inequalities SDG?
Inequality amongst nations is an ongoing problem. For example, the COVID-19 pandemic has amplified existing inequalities and affected the most vulnerable in societies, increasing the global rate of unemployment and diminishing the income of the working class.
That is why promoting social, economic and political inclusion of everyone and assuring equal access to opportunities, as well as reducing inequality has led to the establishment of the SDG 10 as part of the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals.
What types of policies are in line with Goal 10?
The types of policies that are in line with the reducing inequalities SDG are:
- Policies aimed at progressively achieving and sustaining income growth of the bottom 40 per cent of the population at a rate higher than the national average;
- Policies aimed at promoting universal social, economic and political inclusion;
- Policies aimed at ensuring equal opportunities and ending discrimination;
- Policies aimed at adopting fiscal and social policies that promote equality.
