The World Bank Group Young Professionals Program (better known as the World Bank YPP or the WBG YPP) is the organization’s most prestigious selection process.

What is the structure of the World Bank Group?

The WBG was created in 1944 and is comprised of five institutions:

• The International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD), which offers loans to governments of middle-income and creditworthy developing countries;
• The International Development Association (IDA), which provides loans and grants to governments of the poorest developing countries;
• The International Finance Corporation (IFC), which is the world’s largest development institution focused entirely on the private sector;
• The Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA), which promotes foreign direct investment into developing countries;
• And finally, the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID), which supplies international facilities for conciliation and arbitration of disputes between international investors and States.

What are the eligibility criteria?

To be eligible for the YPP, you need to meet the following criteria:

Be 32 years of age or younger (at the time of the application deadline).

Hold a master's degree or equivalent in a relevant field.

Have a strong academic record.

Possess relevant professional experience, a minimum of three years.

Have excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.

Be a citizen of a member country of the World Bank.

What happens if you're selected?

If you're selected for the YPP, you'll join the World Bank as a Young Professional. This is a two-year program that provides you with a unique opportunity to work on diverse projects and gain hands-on experience in different areas of the organization. You'll be assigned to a specific unit within the World Bank and work closely with experienced professionals on real-world development projects. During the program, you'll receive training, mentoring, and professional development opportunities to enhance your skills and knowledge.
