Developed by King’s College London’s Centre for Military Ethics, this course presents a general introduction to the basic ethical aspects of peace operations. The UN Core Values — integrity, professionalism, and respect for diversity — form the basis for this course. Through the use of case studies and practical examples, this compilation aims to be a guideline for peace support personnel in the field. Topics include: the Code of Conduct; cultural awareness; gender and peace operations; sexual exploitation and abuse and human trafficking; child protection; human rights in peace operations; HIV/AIDS Awareness; and UN guidelines and procedures on discipline for uniformed peace operations forces. The course also includes recent reforms within the UN System and an increased focus on the gender perspective in peace operations. Eight lessons.

- After studying, take the End-of-Course Examination (50 multiple choice questions). Students have two opportunities to successfully complete the exam with a score of 75% or better.
- Submit the exam for grading and receive results immediately.
- After successfully completing a course, students earn a Certificate of Completion. Certificates are available in English, Spanish, and French.
- If they so choose, students will have their name listed on the Honour Roll.
- Students may also request transcripts officially documenting the courses they have completed.
The target audience for this course is individuals serving on peacekeeping missions and those interested in serving on peacekeeping missions, individuals interested in the study of peace operations, humanitarian NGO personnel, and gender specialists.
Lesson One Objectives:

Understand the code of conduct and the reasons for its existence, as well as its content including impartiality,
integrity, respect, and loyalty. -
List the consequences of actions that fail to comply with the code of conduct.
