This training explores various retrofitting techniques applicable to earthquake-affected vernacular houses. Participants will gain insight into suitable construction solutions for post-earthquake housing reconstruction. Additionally, the training emphasizes the importance of coordination and collaboration with diverse stakeholders, including international actors, government entities, and public service providers, to deliver effective engineering solutions. The training consists of three live facilitated modules, supplemented with self-paced materials. It spans three days, with each day comprising 2.5 hours of online sessions conducted via Zoom. Two co-cohorts are delivered.

This training explores the different retrofitting measures that can be used for earthquake-affected vernacular houses and helps provide an understanding of how coordination and collaboration with a range of stakeholders (e.g., international actors, government entities, public service providers, etc) can help to deliver effective engineering solutions. This is a three day long training (1 session per day, 2.5 hours per session).

  1. Engineering in an ever-changing humanitarian setting
  2. Appropriate construction solutions for post-earthquake housing reconstruction
  3. Repair and seismic retrofitting of vernacular housing

Course Structure

The programme will be run over 3 days between the (cohort 1) 28 to 30 March and (cohort 2) 15 April to 17 April

Sessions will run between 9:00 and 11:30 UK time each day

Who should attend?

Disaster responders with basic understanding of engineering or architectural principles.
