The Geneva Learning Foundation (TGLF) has announced Teach to Reach 11 on 5-6 December 2024, the eleventh edition of its peer learning platform, network, and community where government health workers, local organizations, and frontline staff document, analyze, and share implementation solutions across borders. The platform’s tenth edition in June 2024 shared nearly 2,000 field experiences from 21,398 participants, half of whom were government health staff, growing an evidence base of local solutions for global health challenges collected since January 2021.

Ground-Level Impact

“Before Teach to Reach, we did not know about Female Genital Schistosomiasis. With what we learned, we put in place activities to raise awareness among women,” said Dr. Ornela Malembe, President of ONG SADF in the Democratic Republic of Congo. FGS affects an estimated 56 million women and girls in sub-Saharan Africa.

Vincent Kamuasha, Country Representative of United Front Against River Blindness in DRC, reported direct improvements in program integration: “At Teach to Reach, we exchanged with the national NTD programme. We approached the national program for the fight against HIV. And recently, we approached the national program for reproductive health and adolescents.”

Knowledge Generation Process

The initiative’s “Teach to Reach Questions” process invites health professionals to share their experience before, during, and after each event. Participants share specific implementation challenges and solutions, which are analyzed and synthesized into a shared evidence base. Post-event analysis demonstrated that 99.7% of participants reported increased work motivation, while 97.8% indicated learning that changed their practice perspective.

“I was very impressed by the sharing and the results I saw at Teach to Reach, especially the real data, and the fact that every time people take part afterwards, we tally it all up and give a report that’s really precise and clear,” said Amadou Gueye, president of the Malaria Youth Corps.

Government and Local Leadership

Half of all participants work in government health services at national, regional, and district levels, with 80% based at district and facility levels where policy meets implementation. The platform connects over 4,000 local organizations globally.

Connecting Local and Global Partners

TGLF will announce new global partnerships focused on climate change and health, as well as malaria control, in the run-up to Teach to Reach 11.

Access and Participation

The initiative is provided without cost to participants or local organizations through global partner subsidies. Teach to Reach 11 is scheduled for December 5-6, 2024.
