Overview of position

CTG is looking for a qualified Alternate Power Technician for our operations. This role is being advertised for talent pool building purposes, once the project goes live, only those candidates that are shortlisted will be contacteed.

Role objectives

  • Install & commission UPS, solar & battery systems, as well as assist in installing a variety of critical power equipment.

  • Install, configure & maintain UPS systems according to manufacturer specifications & industry best practices.

  • Conduct routine maintenance & testing of AC / DC power systems hardware & UPS systems for optimal performance & reliability.

  • Inspect newly procured UPS, batteries, solar & related equipment.

  • Coordinate with the network team to ensure online backup systems firmware is up to date for improved equipment performance & reliability.

  • Research modern alternative power equipment & methods to enhance existing systems.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to find better solutions.

  • Travel to various UN sites to perform scheduled preventative maintenance & repairs on UPS systems, AC / DC rectifiers, batteries, solar backup systems & Power Distribution Units (PDUs).

  • Accurately troubleshoot & diagnose UPS systems, as well as other AC & DC backup systems.

  • Respond to emergency maintenance requests at remote UN sites within the required time frame.

  • Complete documentation promptly & accurately using the company’s computer systems & assess & report the urgency of needed repairs.

Project reporting

This role reports to the line manager.

Key competencies

  • Diploma in or an equivalent of education certification.

  • The technician should have a working knowledge of alternate power systems & system integration.

  • Experience providing services in the field of alternate power area to or in a field operation of the UN common system or comparable international organization is desirable.

  • Experience in the field of information systems or related area in a conflict or post conflict setting is required.

  • Must have excellent oral & written communication skills.

  • Must meet deadlines & provide quick turnaround on projects when needed.

  • Work as part of FTS duty roster responsible for emergency customer support calls after official working hours.

  • Possession of a valid driving license.

  • Fluency in written & spoken English is required.

  • Willingness to work with minimum supervision.

This role has no team management responsibility.
