Chapter description:

Chapter 01The International Monetary Fund: Understanding the Organization

Presents the IMF through its administrative organization, its history, its decision-making system and strategic activities. This chapter is essential, since it is very common for candidates to have difficulties with understanding this complex organization during their various selection processes. Overcoming this difficulty is extremely important for those who wish to work at the IMF, since knowledge about the organization and its strategies is essential during any of its selection processes.

 Chapter 02 Fund Internship

Presents the Fund Internship Program’s characteristics, such as its minimum requirements, the fields of study sought, activities developed, weekly workload, salary and selection process cycle, among others.

Chapter 03 – International Financial Institutions’ (IFIs) Development Models: Timeline and Chapter 04 – The Foundations of New Institutionalism and New Public Management Applied to IFIs Policies are complementary.

Throughout their history, International Financial Institutions (IFIs) have been supported by different theoretical models to advance their international development strategies and policies. Knowledge of these models (particularly the current one) is essential for IMF candidates, since they must present solutions to the questions posed during the selection process, which are in line with the organization’s way of thinking. Therefore, Chapter 4 presents a summarized history of IFIs’ international development models, from their creation until current times, while Chapter 4 explains the theoretical foundations of the current neo-institutional economic model, presenting its main premises and concepts and providing a study guide to help candidates gain a better understanding of it.

Chapter 05 – Online Application Form

Presents and gives detailed explanations of the Fund Internship Program’s online application form, which is essential for candidates to gather the required information in advance, prepare the documents requested and avoid making any mistakes.

Chapter 06 – Crafting the Ideal Resume/CV

Assists candidates to craft a strong Resume or Curriculum Vitae (CV), which is essential to reinforce their chances of success in the selection process and for them to stand out from other candidates. In this chapter, subjects such as the content and structure of an effective Resume, visual aspects and common mistakes will be covered and various tips provided. A sample Resume of a candidate who was successful is also included.

Chapter 07 – Writing an Effective Cover Letter

Explains what a Cover Letter (CL) is, presenting its basic structure and assisting candidates in the process of writing an effective CL. Includes a sample Cover Letter of a successful candidate.

Chapter 08 – Effective Reference Letters

Helps candidates obtain effective reference letters, which can significantly contribute towards their success in the selection process. In this chapter, the following questions are answered: “What is a reference letter?”; “How is it different to a letter of recommendation?”; “Who should I ask for a reference letter?”; “How do I request this letter?”; and “What content should be included in a reference letter?”.

Chapter 09 – The IMF Interviews

Qualifies candidates, so that they perform successfully in the interview. This chapter describes how the interview is carried out for IMF’s selection processes and what is expected from candidates; it presents the different interview methods adopted by the organization (especially the Behavioral Event Interview) and gives tips and suggestions for candidates to be better prepared for this stage of the selection process.
