Context
FAO Armenia is looking for a talented and energetic International Youth Volunteers to help deliver the mandate of the FAO. This junior level position is targeted at individuals with limited experience in order to give them exposure at the international level that would prove useful for future similar work in their professional career. Working for FAO in Armenia can be extremely interesting and rewarding as Youth Volunteer will be exposed to various cultural interfaces and a variety of some of the top forestry and natural resources management experts in the region. This experience will provide an opportunity to work and collaborate with various local stakeholders such as Ministry of Environment, State Forest Agency (Hayantar SNCO), Hydrometeorology and Monitoring Center, etc.
The work environment is fast paced and demanding. As a result, the applicant must be innovator, able to work under pressure while remaining flexible. Individuals interested in working in FAO Armenia require a focused approach, positive perspective, recognition of the constraints of an international system working to achieve great things with limited resources and the ability to work well in a diverse team environment.
Task description
Under the general supervision of FAO Representative in Armenia, and the direct technical supervision of the National Project Coordinator and Lead Technical Officer, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks with guidance of more experienced national and international experts:
o Supports the project team with ensuring the appropriate management of activities in the nurseries including greenhouses, to produce high-quality forest planting materials.
o Supports the project team with the appropriate management of forest restoration ac-tivities, both in terms of planning and implementation in the field.
o Assists with updating and leading the implementation of guidelines for introducing suit-able community-based forestry approaches within Armenia.
o Supports with field organization and implementation of inventories of forest and natu-ral resources.
o Supports with the development and dissemination of information and knowledge products for sustainable forest management.
