The Associate Reporting Officer (HP) reports to the Protection and Neutrality Team Leader, Lebanon

Responsibilities

Acts as Lebanon Field Office’s (LFO) focal point for the production of reports on protection and the application of humanitarian principles. Participates in the preparation and publication of reports, compiling inputs on the protection situation, best practices and lessons learned. Drafts and incorporates protection and humanitarian principles related inputs into several reports, including international human rights mechanisms, UN, donors, other reports and adhoc requests on international human rights and protection issues and the living conditions of Palestine refugees and their access to services. Drafts short analyses using current data tools and processes; identifies areas where data collection processes and data analysis methods can be improved. Regularly monitors UNRWA’s collected data and trends; uses data to prepare presentations, graphs, charts and/or briefings etc. Monitors and analyses current events, public opinion and the press; identifies issues and trends, and advises on opportunities to promote advocacy in accordance with the Agency’s strategies. Drafts reports on integrated checks and violations of humanitarian principles in UNRWA installations and premises. Contributes to advocacy activities by identifying key information gaps, gathering data and compiling reports; contributes to advocacy plans. Reviews and/or develops work plans, which support the Agency’s humanitarian principles requirements and monitors their implementation via various media, including the internet, intranet, advocacy efforts, and public information. Provides other operational support as required, particularly to address gaps in humanitarian and emergency operations.

Education

Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) from an accredited educational institution in international relations, social sciences, communications, journalism, literature, languages, humanities or a related field.

Work Experience

At least two years of relevant experience in drafting reports, preferably in humanitarian and human rights issues and drafting official reports is required. One year of practical reporting experience is required. Unless already serving as an international staff member in the UN Common System, a candidate for an international post must have at least two continuous years of relevant international experience outside UNRWA, and outside the country(s) of which the candidate is a national or holds citizenship, a passport or a national identity number is required. Previous experience working in neutrality with the United Nations is desirable. Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) from an accredited educational institution in international relations, social sciences, communications, journalism, literature, languages, humanities or a related field is required.

Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.

Type of Contract and duration: Temporary appointment until 31 July 2025, appointment subject to funds availability, with the possibility of further extension based on funds, need, and performance. The incumbent may be required to travel in the Agency’s areas of operation. Applicants have to complete the Personal History Profile (PHP) in Inspira in order to be considered.
