Context

Founded in 1933 at the
request of Albert Einstein, the International Rescue Committee (IRC) is one of
the world’s largest humanitarian organizations. The IRC provides relief, rehabilitation,
and post-conflict reconstruction support to victims of oppression and violent
conflict. Working in more than 40 countries, the IRC’s mission is to help
people whose lives and livelihoods are shattered by conflict and disaster to
survive, recover, and take charge of their futures.

IRC has emergency programs in the
Far North region of Cameroon, the South West, with the Coordination office
based in Yaoundé. Programs implemented include environmental health, economic
recovery, education and women’s protection and empowerment.

Intervention area

Occasional drivers will be
based in Buea/Kumba/Mamfe with frequent travel to the program intervention
areas

Objective

Occasional drivers will be
registered in the IRC database and will be used as needed, in the absence of
IRC drivers for annual leave, paternity leave, illness, increased activities
and emergency situations to fill the gap.

Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of
the Chief Driver, his duties will be:

  • Courteously drive IRC workers to destinations previously approved by the direct supervisor;
  • Communicate regularly;
  • During working hours, always have your mobile phone switched on so that you can always be reached;
  • Respect the destinations and movement schedules as approved by his/her supervisor; inform his/her supervisor of cases of delay which could prevent compliance with the return time and route indicated on the exit sheet;
  • Bring departing passengers to the airport and go to the airport to pick up arriving passengers at the places and times indicated;
  • Check the movement tracking table regularly to ensure you do not miss dropping off or picking up one or more traveling employees;
  • Respect and ensure compliance with the rules for using IRC vehicles at all times and places (filling in the logbook, wearing seat belts, no alcohol, no drugs, no foreign persons/materials on board without prior authorization);
  • Ensure regular maintenance of vehicles and notify the supervisor of any breakdowns or suspected breakdowns;
  • Check the fuel and lubricant levels to avoid running out of fuel, fill out and sign the fuel sheet each time you refuel;
  • Ensure that all equipment/tools are on board the vehicle and that spare parts are available;
  • Ensure that all administrative documents relating to the placing of vehicles into circulation are up to date, notify the supervisor at least three weeks in advance in the event of expiry of said documents;
  • Drive and park/park the vehicle in a safe manner, avoid taking roads that are unsafe from a safety point of view;
  • Ensure the internal and external property of the vehicle by washing it regularly;
  • Assist mechanics during vehicle maintenance or repair;
  • Ensure that the emergency first aid kit is present in the vehicle and up to date;
    Perform any other additional tasks required by the supervisor.

Follow up

  • Write daily travel reports (written feedback from the field)
  • Ensure that all financial documents (liquidation of advances/Security Envelope) will be completed and submitted accurately, as required by IRC policies.

General

  • Commits to respecting the IRC Way (IRC Ethics).
  • Commits to ensuring the optimal implementation of these Policies in its work environment.

Other functions

  • Is available to perform any other ad hoc task deemed useful by his/her direct superior or by the IRC.
  • Ensure that all activities will be implemented in accordance with IRC operational policies.
  • Other additional tasks assigned by the supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications:

Required Qualification and skills

  • Holder of driving license B, D.
  • Holder of a minimum First Schol Leaving Certificate
  • Have knowledge of mechanics
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in a similar position.
  • Experience with an NGO humanitarian international preferably
  • In-depth knowledge of the location (Buea or Kumba or Mamfe)
  • The candidate must be mature and comfortable in a multicultural work environment, promote teamwork and be able to handle pressure.
  • Strong adaptability skills
  • English proficiency and/or French, and local languages

Composition of the application file:

  • Photocopy(s) of the required diploma(s).
  • Photocopy of driving license.
  • Photocopy of the national identity card.
