Lifting Hands International is looking for Child Friendly Space Facilitators in Greece

About Us

Lifting Hands International operates a community center in Serres, a small city about an hour from Thessaloniki in Northern Greece. We work with a population of 1000+ refugees & asylum seekers at the local camps, providing regular aid distributions and a range of psychosocial support programs.

Program Description

The Child Friendly Space (CFS) is a safe space for children (Under 13), The CFS is primarily a play based development programme for Early Years Children. CFS also offers school aged children sports, and an After School Club so they can relax and play.

Main Responsibilities

  • Facilitating After School Club and/or Early Years Sessions; welcoming and engaging the children in different activities
  • Leading circle times
  • Assisting with lending box activities
  • Creating a safe space for children by enforcing the rules
  • Giving praise and encouragement to children when they exhibit positive behavior
  • Ensure resources are well looked after and the space is kept clean and tidy.
  • Attending weekly program and team meetings
  • Reporting any child welfare concerns
  • Maintain a stable and routined environment for children

Essential Criteria

  • Enjoy working with young children / have experience
  • Are willing to oversee arts and crafts, sensory play, role-play, and reading and writing
  • Are able and willing to lead/participate in outside sports, activities and dancing
  • Are patient, kind and bring plenty of energy to the team
  • Quick thinker, proactive, motivated, open-minded, able to work in a fast-paced working environment, positive and adaptable to work with limited shared language with program participants
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Professional attitude, able to remain calm under pressure
  • Able to work well in a large, multicultural team
  • Fluent English speaker

Desirable criteria

  • Willingness to lead After School Club or Early Years sessions.
  • Knowledge or motivation to learn about trauma informed approach
  • Understanding of the implementation of psychosocial support programs
  • Potential to stay on the team for longer than 2 months
  • Previous experience working with refugees, forcibly displaced persons, or at-risk youth

We offer

  • Five-day work week + full week break after every 6 weeks of work
  • Monthly reimbursement ( 100 euros per month after the fourth month)
  • Free accommodation on stays over 6 months, only 50 euros per month for those staying three or more months.
  • 5 euros per night for stays less than 3 months
