General Description of the Programme:
GOAL has been working in Syria since 2013, responding to the acute needs of conflict-affected communities. GOAL is working in Idleb Governate, both through direct implementation and through partners, delivering food, non-food programming to highly vulnerable populations, and provision of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) through support to Water units, as well as emergency support to recently displaced households.

Job purpose:
The GOAL Syria Communications and Media Officer is responsible for the successful delivery of a donor-funded communications and visibility campaign GOAL will implement between August 2024 and May 2025. This involves developing, editing, and contributing to the publication of audiovisual and other content packages about GOAL’s humanitarian assistance activities in Northwest Syria under the supervision of the GOAL Syria Communications and Media Manager, in cooperation with the GOAL Syria Field Communications and Media Team, and in coordination with GOAL’s Ireland-based Head Office Communications Team as well as planning, guiding, and overseeing the production of content.
The role also contributes to GOAL Syria’s internal communications initiatives and supports the Communications and Media Department’s internal and external coordination efforts.
Duties, objectives and competencies
Duties
Content development and planning (30%)
- Develop the content packages that will be published under a donor-funded communications and visibility campaign GOAL will implement between August 2024 and May 2025, working in close cooperation with the GOAL Syria Field Communications and Media Team.
- Oversee and guide the logistical planning and the acquisition of the written, visual, and audiovisual content that will be produced about GOAL’s humanitarian assistance activities by the GOAL Syria Field Communications and Media Team and by teams of external consultants under the campaign mentioned above.
Content editing and packaging (45%)
- Edit the written, visual, and audiovisual content that will be produced about GOAL’s humanitarian assistance activities by the GOAL Syria Field Communications and Media Team and by teams of external consultants under a donor-funded communications and visibility campaign GOAL will implement between August 2024 and May 2025.
- Working in close coordination with the GOAL Head Office Communications Team, package the written, visual, and audiovisual content that will be produced under the campaign mentioned above, ensuring the timely publication of web-stories, social media postings, digital advertisings, etc.
Internal Communications (25%)
- Contribute to GOAL Syria’s internal communications initiatives, including by conceptualizing and designing newsletters, e-mail message templates, digital platforms, and in-office print material of various scales.
Objectives
- Ensure the timely and successful implementation of the donor-funded communications and visibility campaign GOAL will implement between August 2024 and May 2025 under a project whereby assistance will be provided in Northwest Syria across humanitarian sectors (i.e., food security, water, sanitation and hygiene, emergency response, and shelter).
- Increase the range and reach of GOAL Syria’s internal communications tools and products.
Competencies
- Organization skills, including the ability and willingness to take part in the management and execution of defined and new intra- and inter-departmental work processes within an international environment.
- Coordination skills, including the ability to prioritize and deprioritize tasks in a context of competing demands.
- Teamwork and planning skills, including the ability to remotely oversee the acquisition content in the field.
Requirements (essential)
- Citizen of Jordan.
- Bachelor’s degree in a Visual Communications or Mass Communications discipline – including Journalism, Media Studies, Communications and Design, Cinema and TV, Multimedia, or closely similar.
- At least 2 years of experience in a relevant field of work or similar role/s.
- Experience in drafting and editing written content in English (including stories and/or social media posts), to be assessed on basis of links to samples of work that should be listed in the applicant’s CV.
- Formal training and experience in audio-visual pre-production, production, and post-production (including developing, scripting, and editing short form video), to be assessed on basis of links to samples of work that should be listed in the applicant’s CV.
- Content management skills, including knowledge of archiving and of video compression and publication formats.
- Advanced oral and written English.
Requirements (desired)
- Work experience in a humanitarian or development agency for at least six months.
- Postgraduate certificate/diploma or master’s degree in a relevant field.
