UNRWA is a United Nations agency established by the General Assembly in 1949 and is mandated to provide assistance and protection to a population of some 5.8 million registered Palestine refugees. Its mission is to help Palestine refugees in Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, West Bank and the Gaza Strip to achieve their full potential in human development, pending a just solution to their plight. UNRWA’s services encompass education, health care, relief and social services, camp infrastructure and improvement, microfinance, and emergency assistance.

UNRWA is the largest UN operation in the Middle East with more than 30,000 staff. UNRWA is funded almost entirely by voluntary contributions.

• Supervisor:
The incumbent of this post is responsible to the Principal Training Centre. He/she supervises the administrative and technical staff.

• Supervisees:
The incumbent of this post supervises the staff in the assigned training centre including professional and support staff.

Responsibilities
• Supervises the vocational training programme including:
– Supervising and guiding all Senior Vocational Training Instructors, Technical Instructors, Academic Instructors and Trade Instructors in achieving the programme objectives;
– Preparing and ensuring the implementation of the weekly time-table;
– Coordinating the preparation, implementation, follow up and evaluation of the biennial work plans;
– Supervising and developing the instructional staff teaching competency through the use of integrated supervisory tools including classroom/workshop visits, seminars, action research;
– Planning and assisting in the implementation of suitable in-service training programmes based on the needs of the instructional staff;
-Preparing and reviewing the staffing table of the centre;
-Ensuring that orders of training supplies are submitted in accordance with established procedures;
– Ensuring that equipment and other training facilities are properly maintained and safeguarded.

• Assists Principal Training Centre in managing, supervising and coordinating the activities of the centre.

• Attends to student’s progress including:
– Reviewing the progress reports and marks of trainees and advising on any necessary educational and/or disciplinary measures to be taken as appropriate;
– Applying the TC’s rules and regulations to academic and administrative problems;
– Discussing student’s problems with concerned staff, and identifying appropriate courses of action; counseling with students on related matters.

• Supervises on-the-job training for VTC trainees.
• Liaises with government and private institutions providing similar training.
• Acts for the Principal during his/her absence.
• Performs other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.

Education
• Advanced university degree in one of the subjects taught at the centre or in education or psychology.
Job Specific Qualifications

• You are required to have a certificate or diploma showing completion of a course of at least one year duration in education or education psychology or instructor training.

Work Experience
• You are required to have at least three years’ experience in an administrative/supervisory capacity in a vocational educational institution.

• You are required to have at least two years’ experience in teaching or instructing in subjects
relevant to those taught at the Training Centre.

“For senior experience, you are required to mention the number of staff members you
supervised under each senior position.”

• Are you currently residing in Duty Station. It is required that you specify your current location.

Languages

• Excellent command of spoken and written Arabic and English.

• Provided very good understanding of the context of Palestine refugees and UNRWA operations.

Special Notice
Contract Status:
Fixed-Term Appointment for 3 years including 1 year probation period, with the possibility of further extension, subject to the availability of funds, satisfactory performance and continuing need.

Benefits:
Grade and Salary: Grade 15, Monthly Salary: JD 997.300 fils. Special Occupational Allowance 0.15% of basic salary.

Other benefits: Other benefits include Provident Fund contribution (15.4% of basic salary paid by the Agency), compulsory medical insurance, 30 days of annual leave, and dependency allowance is subject to eligibility (if applicable).

Additional Benefits:
– 2.5 days of sick leave for each completed month of service.
– 14 weeks of maternity leave.
– 2 weeks of paternity leave.

NB: Work experience alone or formal qualifications with no relevant work experience are not considered an acceptable combination.

General Information:
•This vacancy notice is open to internal and external candidates. Only candidates residing in Jordan, and within commuting distance of the duty station with authorization to work in the duty station at the time of application are eligible to apply.

•Since the Vacancy is an Area Staff post, the Agency will not provide coverage for relocation costs.
