Overview: The Development Manager leads the design, implementation, and monitoring of all resource development efforts in support of the IRC in Denver’s mission. They guide the Development team’s work to cultivate, solicit, and steward corporate, foundation and individual donors; manage the annual calendar of resource development activities including donor management, grant proposal preparation and submission, grant management and reporting, annual appeals and other fundraising campaigns, and fundraising events; ensure consistent donor-centric communications and engagement touchpoints; and participate in annual budgeting and fundraising goal setting. The Development Manager crafts broader external communications that aim to increase awareness, educate, and mobilize the community in support of IRC and the people it serves. In consultation with the Communications team at IRC’s headquarters and IRC in Denver leadership, this position also acts as a media focal point, liaising with reporters, and educating and empowering clients who wish to participate in storytelling for advocacy, community education, grant reporting, and fundraising purposes. The Development Manager will oversee production of content for both the internet and printed materials, including managing IRC in Denver’s web site and social media. The Development Manager supervises a team of staff, interns, and volunteers. As a member of the IRC in Denver’s Senior Management Team, the Development Manager also provides effective leadership and oversight across their areas of responsibility and across the office to ensure sound stewardship of resources and donor relationships. They will contribute to long-term strategic planning and share responsibility for implementing and achieving the office’s strategic plan. Additionally, this role will represent IRC in the local community, and will engage regularly with donors and other stakeholders to increase awareness, generate support, and raise the visibility of IRC’s work.

Major Responsibilities:

Resource Development

  • Meet or exceed yearly fundraising goals for the IRC in Denver and participate in annual goal setting to grow philanthropic support and diverse funding streams within the office’s budget.
  • Develop annual fundraising plans for the IRC in Denver with specific and measurable goals and objectives for restricted and unrestricted funds.
  • Implement strategies to support fundraising plans and solicit unrestricted and diversified funding through grant proposals, individual donor solicitation, and other requests for funding.
  • Serve as the focal point for prospect research, proposal development and donor cultivation.
  • Work with the Development team and subject matter experts within the program teams to prepare and submit letters of inquiry, grant proposals, budgets, amendments, and reports.
  • Identify, cultivate, and sustain individual donors through mailings, face-to-face cultivation meetings, community engagement opportunities, and other creative strategies.
  • Support efforts to secure cash and in-kind contributes to fulfill match requirements for specific grants; maintain appropriate documentation for cash and in-kind donations.
  • Oversee annual fundraising events, donor appeals, special campaigns, and other events.

Donor Relations and Communications

  • Ensure that all external written and verbal communications are accurate, professionally written, consistent with IRC brand guidelines, and donor centric.
  • Coordinate with colleagues to produce and distribute communications materials, including brochures, monthly newsletters, social media, and website updates.
  • Conduct outreach and networking activities to recruit and educate potential donors.
  • Raise awareness about the IRC and represent the office at meetings, seminars and forums.
  • Work across program teams to build skills that enable the broader staff to effectively engage with donors, share their work, and represent the work of the IRC.
  • Liaise with all external press and vet media requests in consultation with IRC headquarters and
  • local office leadership.
  • Ensure the collection and tracking of data and analytics from the IRC in Denver digital platforms and track and monitor media coverage.
  • Oversee the creation and maintenance of a storytelling portfolio, complete with client consent

forms, compelling client stories, and photos to use for advocacy, education, grant reporting, and

other external relations materials.

Grants Management

· In partnership with Program Managers and Program Leads successfully increase the total grant funding in dollar amounts annually in Denver.

· In conjunction with the Development Team, oversee the submission of all grants with the expectation of annual increases in total number of grants and total funding amounts submitted

· In conjunction with the Development Team, maintain a grants management tracking and donor tracking system regularly updated with accurate data

· In conjunction with the Development Team, develop and ensure the effective maintenance of contract and grant files for each funded program with consistent documentation standards

· In conjunction with the Development Team, work closely with program and finance staff to prepare interim and final reports to grantors

· Liaise with the headquarters grants and business development staff on all new contracts, grants, and sub-grants

General Management

  • Provide leadership in accordance with IRC’s People Manager Standards, including:
    • Convening regular one-on-one meetings with all direct reports.
    • Leading the development team.
    • Effectively delegate duties and responsibilities.
    • Providing consistent and ongoing feedback and communication.
    • Supporting professional development and mentoring and coaching team members.
  • Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate Development staff, volunteers, and interns.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with the Executive Director on resource development efforts.
  • Proactively seek solutions to address problems and escalate management issues and concerns.
  • Assist Executive Director and Finance Manager in budgeting process.
  • Participate actively as member of the IRC Denver Senior Management Team and liaise with other program managers and staff to ensure efficient collaboration with all departments.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field is required, graduate degree in non-profit management, public administration, international relations, or a related field is preferred.

Work Experience

  • Minimum of five (5) years of professional work experience in fundraising, public relations, proposal writing, grants management, and other related duties in the non-profit sector.
  • Prior people management experience strongly preferred.

  • Experience with program and budget management, monitoring, and evaluation preferred.
  • Proven leadership and team-building skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; fluency in English required.
  • Demonstrated success working and communicating effectively in a multi-cultural environment.
  • Self-starter with outstanding problem-solving skills, sound judgement, and the proven ability to prioritize and manage time effectively.
  • Strong organizational skills, with consistent attention to detail and accuracy in work product.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Salesforce; ability to use the internet and other digital tools for data entry, research, and problem-solving purposes.

Working Environment:

  • A combination of standard office environment and remote work on a limited basis.
  • Occasional domestic (non-local) travel required; up to 10%.
  • Occasional weekend and/or evening work required.
  • Staff are required to adhere to IRC’s COVID risk mitigation policies, which may include masking, physical distancing, enhanced hygiene practices, symptom screening, and isolation and quarantine when needed. IRC policies may be stricter than federal, state, or local level policies.

Compensation:

Posted pay ranges apply to US and UK-based candidates. Ranges are based on various factors including the labor market, job type, internal equity, and budget. Exact offers are calibrated by work location, individual candidate experience and skills relative to the defined job requirements.

We offer a comprehensive and highly competitive set of benefits.
