What we are looking for:

The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) is seeking a highly qualified, engaged, and dynamic Director for its presence in Germany.

The Director NRC Germany leads NRC’s Representation Office in Germany as the Managing Director (Geschäftsführerin/Geschäftsführer).

NRC Germany is a non-profit limited liability company (gemeinnützige GmbH) and represents NRC with relevant stakeholders in Germany including government representatives, institutional donors, UN agencies, INGOs, cooperate partners, media, and the general public.

NRC Germany is one of the entities reporting to NRC’s Partnerships and Policy Department which includes other Representation Offices in Brussels, Geneva, London, and Washington DC.

The Partnerships and Policy Department is responsible for:

  • NRC’s strategic relations with institutional partners.
  • The organization’s global advocacy and policy work.
  • Partnerships with UN agencies and NGOs.

What you will do:

  • Leadership and Management

As the Director you are responsible for strategic development of NRC’s presence in Germany and relationships with German stakeholders including institutional donors. You manage NRC Germany in accordance with NRC’s policies and procedures as well as with German law.

  • Resource mobilisation and partner relations

As the Director you are responsible for managing NRC’s strategic relationships with institutional partners, foundations, cooperate partners, and the general public in line with the NRC Global Strategy and the PnP Department strategy as well as the mandate of the Representation Office.

  • Advocacy and policy work

As the Director you must be an advocate for the protection and assistance of displaced and vulnerable people and engage in policy dialogue with government actors, NGOs, and other key stakeholders in Germany. The Director is responsible for NRC’s position and relevance in Germany.

What you will bring:

  • Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible professional experience with at least 5 years of relevant senior management experience within the humanitarian field
  • Outstanding communication, representation, and interpersonal skills
  • Proven ability to develop and implement solid institutional and organisational strategies.
  • Professional knowledge of humanitarian principles
  • Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities, for example people and team management, budget responsibility, high level representation, and strategic planning.
  • Business mindset, preferable experience from working with/at the private sector.
  • Being a confident and experienced public speaker.
  • Fluency in German and English, both written and verbal.

What we offer:

  • Duty station: Berlin, Germany.
  • Contract: 4 years with the possibility of extension.
  • Travel: 10%
