About the Role

The Evidence and Impact (E&I) Analyst role supports the E&I team – a group of 11 and growing passionate, technical team – in conducting high quality research, routine and ad-hoc data analyses, dashboard development and maintenance, and donor-focused monitoring and evaluation (M&E) tasks ensure MSI has the data and evidence needed to inform programming and achieve the bold goals laid out in MSI’s 2030 Strategy. Across all our programmes, we maintain a foundation in delivering client-centred care and our core mission to provide safe and effective access to abortion services. The Evidence and Impact Analyst will ensure that MSI’s programmes are informed by robust data and evidence to achieve tangible impact consistent with our vision; to ensure effective measurement and evaluation systems are in place; and insight and evidence is used internally and externally to demonstrate MSI’s impact and value in strengthening MSI’s sexual and reproductive health service delivery.

To perform this role, it is essential that you have the following skills:

  • Strong quantitative skills, preferably in an areas of demographic estimation
  • Strong ability to triangulate multiple data sources to derive new insights, basic knowledge of data architectures desirable.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for report writing and presentation.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset: demonstrated ability to work independently on complex projects and solve challenging problems, in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work in partnership across departments with colleagues and stakeholders with limited structural support.
  • Superb organisational skills will enable management of competing priorities, and enable flexible and adaptable working within the team.

To perform this role, it is essential that you have the following experience:

  • Knowledge of public health statistical techniques, close familiarity with sources of data on health, demographics, and wider determinants, and the ability to derive and share population health insights (e.g., interaction between population growth or decline, fertility, mortality, migration, etc.) with a variety of audiences.
  • Proficient in data management, database querying, and advanced quantitative data analysis using statistical analysis software (e.g., SPSS, SAS, STATA, R, Excel).
  • Proficient in using Excel (including VBA) to create analytical tables and graphical outputs and develop tools to streamline data capture, analysis and presentation.

It is desirable that you have the following experience:

  • Working with the DHS datasets and other demographic sources
  • Using visualization software and building interactive dashboards (e.g., R, Tableau, Power BI)
  • Using qualitative data analysis software (e.g., nVivo)
  • Conducing literature review and synthesis.

Formal Education/Qualifications:

  • A degree in statistics, demography, economics, epidemiology is preferred
  • Proficiency in French highly desirable – Please state level in application.
  • Additional qualification or formal training in research design, epidemiology or impact evaluation is desirable

  • Excellent communication skills both through verbal and written methods, including sharing compelling stories via data, explaining complex ideas simply, and presenting to senior audiences.
  • Highly numerate; able to analyse and critically query complex data.
  • Excellent attention to detail; methodical and precise.
  • Able to travel internationally.

Location: London Support Office (hybrid working).

Full-time: 35 hours a week, Monday to Friday (UK contracted hours).

Contract type: 2 year fixed term contract.

Salary: £34,200 – £42,750 per annum for UK based candidates. Discretionary bonus + benefits.

Salary band: BG 7

Closing date: 14th June 2024 (midnight GMT+1). Interviews may take place before this date for exceptional candidates.

For internal employees applying from an MSI country programme, the role will be positioned within the existing salary structure of the country. Local terms and conditions of the country will apply.
