Position Purpose

The Gender & Youth Specialist will ensure gender and youth are mainstreamed and integrated throughout ALG activities. They will use findings from the Gender, Equity, Youth, and Social Inclusion (GEYSI) Analysis and Strategy to identify, implement, and monitor initiatives benefiting women, young people, LGBTQI+ persons, and other marginalized groups. The Specialist will address gender gaps, Gender-Based Violence (GBV), and other gender and youth-related issues that hinder ALG implementation, recommending and supporting opportunities to empower vulnerable groups.

KEy Duties & Responsibilities

  • Ensure all ALG activities incorporate gender and youth considerations and build the capacity of intervention portfolio teams.
  • Develop and periodically update the GEYSI Analysis and Strategy in coordination with project leadership.
  • Lead the finalization of learning questions and indicators, contributing to the design of data collection and verification strategies.
  • Coordinate with MEL and Communications staff to monitor, measure, and report on ALG inclusion work.
  • Provide training and orientation to partners, LGUs, and ALG staff on gender mainstreaming and other topics, as relevant.
  • Participate in annual activity and results’ reviews to assess GEYSI impacts as part of the project’s adaptive management approach.
  • Support the ALG team, subcontractors, and grantees in integrating GEYSI into tools, strategies, and processes.
  • Work with project grantees to develop and refine GEYSI plans for youth, women, and marginalized groups’ participation in grants activities.
  • Contribute to project reporting, work planning, communications, MEL, and CLA actions/tasks, ensuring reports include progress on Gender, GBV, and social inclusion.
  • Develop communications materials to disseminate new resources, promote GEYSI efforts, and share lessons learned and success stories.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in international development, gender studies, or related field, or equivalent work experience; advanced degree preferred.
  • 8 years of relevant working experience in gender and social inclusion.
  • Demonstrated experience developing GEYSI-related indicators and supporting monitoring and evaluation of GEYSI indicators.
  • Experience on USAID-funded projects or other donor-funded projects is highly preferred.
  • Fluency in English and Arabic required.

The Gender & Youth Specialist will report to the Accountability and Transparency Team Leader.
