Context:
The Media and Communications Unit (MCU) of IOM is comprised of experienced communications professionals based in Geneva and Manila.
The team provides advice and support on media and public information issues to IOM Headquarters and missions worldwide. It is responsible for direct media relations with UN-accredited Geneva press corps and others, administers IOM’s global social media accounts and website and manages content submitted from around the world to be published on those global platforms, oversees institutional branding and initiates and manages global information campaigns. MCU produces a wide range of print and audio-visual materials for a variety of audiences to enhance understanding about IOM’s work and its position as the leading UN agency in the field of migration., and to advocate on behalf of the rights of migrants worldwide.
Under the direct supervision of the Brand Manager, the Graphic Design Assistant will provide graphic layout and design support services to assist in the creation of visually appealing content in relation to IOM brand’s initiatives.
Core Functions / Responsibilities:
- Upon instruction, prepare, lay out and adapt infographics, illustrations, toolkits, banners, posters, or social media graphics.
- Provide administrative support for the Brand and Design Team’s collaborations with web developers, designers, and the production team.
- Upon instruction, produce specific graphic inputs to support the creation of one-off and other designs suitable for digital platforms, print publications and other promotional materials in appropriate formats, resolutions, and colour profiles.
- Assist the supervisor in collecting and compiling project requirements.
- Provide other graphic design support to creative projects as required.
- Perform such other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications and Experience:
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Multimedia Arts, Advertising, Fine Arts or related fields from an accredited academic institution with three years of relevant professional experience; or, • High school diploma with five years of relevant professional experience.
- Professional certificate in Graphic Design is desirable.
Experience
- Five years (three years for bachelor’s degree holders) of experience in creating designs for information products, publications and/or publicity materials;
- Experience in a creative studio or a design unit is desirable;
- Experience working with institutional brand guidelines; and,
- Experience in the creation of digital designs.
Skills
- Software fluency in Adobe Creative Suite (with emphasis in Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign)and Microsoft (SharePoint, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.);
- Ability to express a corporate brand effectively and consistently through graphic design; and,
- Knowledge of Adobe After Effects an Canva is a plus.
Languages
IOM’s official languages are English, French, and Spanish. All staff members are required to be fluent in one of the three languages.
For this position, fluency in English is required (oral and written). Working knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, and Spanish) is an advantage.
Proficiency of language(s) required will be specifically evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.
