About the Role
The Human Resources Generalist (HRG) will provide support to the Human Resources department and the overall Institute with a specific focus on supporting the global teams based internationally. The HRG will provide support for various functions related to the full lifecycle of the employee. The HR Generalist will have both administrative and strategic responsibilities related to various projects within the HR department. The ideal candidate will have a generalist background with experience and/or exposure in the following areas: onboarding, training and development, employee relations, benefits, compensation, recruitment, and human resources information systems (HRIS) for a global workforce which includes EXPATs, TCNs and HCNs.
Your Purpose and Impact:
- Provides day-to-day HR support to employees and the HR department; develops and implements a variety of HR projects, processes, and policies.
- Provides guidance and interpretation of these policies to managers and employees as it relates to business operations in an international environment.
- Provides support to the onboarding of internationally based employees to include conducting virtual new employee orientations (NEO), collecting necessary paperwork, and answering questions as needed.
- Processes HR-related paperwork, such as promotions, equity adjustments, and terminations.
- Develops SOPs for a variety of international HR processes and works with HR Leadership to align these processes with HR system capabilities; plays a role on various HR Task Forces which aim to enhance international people programs and initiatives.
- Provides support during employee relations investigations to include notetaking and creating the initial draft of findings for HR Business Partners.
- Ensures appropriate HR-related documentation and data integrity within relevant and internal recordkeeping systems; audits and maintains HR-related information on the Staff Portal.
- Uses working knowledge of employment law to support compliance-related items such as EEO reporting and the implementation of new policies and regulations; in partnership with legal and local counsel updates international employee handbooks as needed.
- Builds trust-based, collaborative, and respectful relationships with management and staff, partnering with others across the organization and within Human Resources to create a positive work environment/culture through effective communications, policies, and practices.
- Participates in meetings within Human Resources and with others across the organization, as well as with external vendors and stakeholders as required.
- Ensures that all Human Resource information is handled with a high degree of sensitivity, confidentiality, and integrity.
- Partners closely with domestic HR Generalist to create synergies where necessary and be one another’s back-up.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent experience, preferably in a related field, i.e., Human Resources, industrial/labor relations, business.
- Four (4) years of relevant work experience in Human Resources; Previous experience in an international development organization is a plus.
- Proficiency in Google Workspace (formerly known as G Suite); must be comfortable with HR systems and data; strong preference for experience with Ultipro (HRIS); experience using a HR ticketing system also preferred.
- Strong attention to detail with ability to complete work accurately with a focus on quality.
- Working knowledge of Human Resources and familiarity with federal, state, and local employment laws, and general knowledge of business operations
- Strong interpersonal skills and cultural sensitivity to effectively interact with individuals within a global organization.
- Strong oral and written communication skills; ability to communicate effectively.
- Ability to maintain composure, apply discretion, and maintain confidential information.
- Must be able to work in a sometimes-ambiguous environment and have strong problem-solving abilities.
- Capacity to work effectively both independently and as a member of a team.
Certifications/Licenses
- HR certification preferred.

This position offers an anticipated salary range of approximately $70,300 – $87,900.

While there may be flexibility for remote/hybrid work environment and to comply with tax and legal obligations, successful candidates must be residents of MD, DC, or VA, or relocate prior to the start of employment at NDI.
