Work Context : CESVI is a secular and independent humanitarian organization, founded in Bergamo, Italy in 1985. CESVI works in 23 countries across Africa, Asia, Latin America and Europe, supporting the most vulnerable populations in the promotion of human rights, in the achievement of their aspirations, for sustainable development and in response to the most severe emergencies.

CESVI is registered in Ethiopia since 2018 and has been working in refugee camps in Tigray and with pastoralist communities in Oromia. In 2022, CESVI started operations in Amhara (COVID-19 prevention measures and income-generating activities for people with disabilities in conflict-affected areas), Harar, and Dire Dawa (promoting socio-economic integration of people on the move and potential migrants, with a focus on people with disabilities, along the Eastern Ethiopian migration route) and Beninshangul-Gumuz (in the Bambasi refugee camp). In May 2023, CESVI will start the project “Humanitarian / Development / Peace Nexus nelle comunità agropastorali sfollate e residenti nel Borena – Oromia (HUDEPE Borena)” – AID 12470, funded by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation.

Job Description: Position Overview: We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive HR Officer to join our team. The HR Officer will play a crucial role in supporting various HR functions, including recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, and administrative tasks. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, a strong attention to detail, and a passion for fostering a positive work environment.

Responsibilities:

  1. Recruitment Support:

    • Assist in job posting creation and distribution across multiple platforms.
    • Coordinate interview schedules and communicate with candidates throughout the recruitment process.
    • Conduct initial screening of resumes and applications.
    • Support the coordination of recruitment events and career fairs.
  2. Onboarding and Orientation:

    • Coordinate new hire paperwork and ensure completion of all required documents.
    • Schedule and facilitate new hire orientations.
    • Preparation of Contracts and regular coordination with the necessary department on any upcoming renewals needed or end-of-contract notice to be issued.
    • Assist in the development and maintenance of onboarding materials.
    • Serve as a point of contact for new hires during their onboarding process.
  3. Employee Relations:

    • Provide support in resolving employee inquiries and issues.
    • Assist in conducting investigations into employee complaints or concerns.
    • Maintain employee records and ensure accuracy and confidentiality.
    • Collaborate with HR team to implement employee engagement initiatives.
  4. HR Administrative Support:

    • Maintain HR databases and systems, ensuring data integrity.
    • Generate HR reports and metrics as needed.
    • Assist in organizing HR-related meetings and events.
    • Support other HR projects and initiatives as assigned.
  • Ensure that all the due taxes are regularly calculated and paid by the base administrator concerned
  1. Other Tasks

    • Preparation of contracts
    • Update the HR manual and supervise the implementation of HR procedures and manual annexes
    • Supervision partner HR documents
    • Follow up the annual appraisals, ensure that all staff involved in the appraisal schedule it properly and respect the deadlines,
    • Assist with the Expat Staff documentation needed to be fully compliant with the Ethiopian Laws, e.g. Work permit applications and renewals, Visa applications
    • Ensuring regular filling of timesheets by staff and keeping records of the same for audits.
    • The incumbent might be requested by the management to act as safeguarding focal point for the organization in the Country.

The collaboration will start in June/July

Essential requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field.

  • 3-4 years of experience in HR or related administrative roles preferred.
  • Knowledge of HR practices and procedures.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, and Teams software, etc.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.

Optional requirements

Previous experience in working with International NGOs.
