Org. Setting and Reporting
The position is located in the Human Resources Management Service, Division of Administration, United Nations Office at Geneva. The incumbent will report to a Human Resources Officer.
Responsibilities
Within delegated authority, the Information Officer will be responsible for the following duties: • Ensures implementation of information programs to publicize priority issues for the Human Resources Management Service (HRMS) and/or major events, to include drafting information strategies, coordinating efforts, monitoring and reporting on progress, taking appropriate follow-up action, and analyzing the outcome. Develops HRMS communication strategy aimed at promoting awareness and understanding of the priorities of HRMS. • Monitors and analyzes current events, staff members’ opinion, identifies issues and trends, and advises management on appropriate action/responses. • Provides internal communications expertise, support and advice to HRMS on cross HRMS initiatives such as outreach, career development, anti-racism strategy and other internal management reform areas, and delivers the internal communications plan including a rolling 3-month communications calendar for HRMS and use to monitor delivery. • Produces or oversees production of information communications products (e.g. broadcast, note verbale, talking points, articles, speeches, booklets, brochures, backgrounders, audio-visual materials, prints, etc.), to include proposing topics, undertaking research, determining appropriate medium and target audience, preparing production plans, writing drafts, obtaining clearances and finalizing texts, editing copy, and coordinating design approval, printing procedures and distribution. • Oversees the strategic development and continuous improvement of the internal communications channels – in particular, leads the improvement of the HRMS page on iSeek. • Prepares, on the basis of official UN documentation and other sources, initial drafts of articles or chapters for inclusion in UN newsletters, periodicals, reports and books. • Initiates and sustains professional relationships with key counterparts. • Acts as focal point on specific issues, monitoring and reporting on developments, responding to inquiries, etc. • Provides guidance to, and may supervise, more junior staff. • Collects and analyzes data to identify trends or patterns and provide insights through graphs, charts, tables and reports using data visualization methods to enable data-driven planning, decision-making, presentation and reporting.

Education
Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in communication, journalism, international relations, public administration or related field is required. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
Job – Specific Qualification
Successful completion of both degree and non-degree programs in data analytics, business analytics or data science programs is desirable.
Work Experience
A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in public information, journalism, communications, international relations, public administration or related area is required. Experience in working with digital communication tools and web-based media is required. Experience in graphic design is desirable. Experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of French is desirable.
Assessment
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.
