You

You are interested in working in an international organization and eager to learn. You are enthusiastic, result driven and have great communication skills. As an intern in this role, you support the Operations and Quality officer and the Senior Advisor Organizational Development in the following areas: travel, quality management, environmental management, procurement and any other work to do in operations. This is a multidimensional internship in which you have contact with various departments. We are really looking for a Jack-of-all-trades!

Your Challenge

You provide support the Operations and Quality officer and Senior Advisor Organizational Development in the areas detailed below. On a daily basis this can be communications, planning and coordination, documentation or technical support. There is operational work to do, but you will also be involved in more tactical and strategic discussions. Obligations you may have in relation to your study will be discussed with you in order to ensure that the time with War Child will benefit your start in the job market.

Your responsibilities:

Quality management

  • Support Quality officer and Senior Advisor OD on improvement actions resulting from internal quality audits

Environmental management

  • Support the functioning of environmental management in the organization (e.g. carbon footprint calculation)

Operations

  • Support day to day management of the team with tasks such as communications, planning and coordination, documentation, technical support (with help of servicedesk), etc.
  • Coordinate basic procurements and invoicing
  • Support the team with reporting and administrative tasks
  • Support with communications and coordination with country programme teams
  • Provide support in organizing meetings and events, and preparing materials for these.

Travel

  • Contribute to maintaining good relationships with the travel agency, hotels and possible new parties in order to ensure (cost-) effective arrangements
  • Assist travelers conforming the Travel Policy
  • Support in the use of the online booking tool

Your profile

  • Student of HBO or Bachelor program, with specialization IBMS, Business Administration, Marketing, Economics or similar.
  • You areenrolled in a Dutch higher education institutefor the whole duration of the internship
  • Ability to produce quality work outputs within agreed priorities and to deadlines
  • Preferably, you have knowledge of NGO and/or development sector
  • Ability to maintain contacts at different levels
  • Excellent planning & organizational skills
  • Problem solving skills, can-do mentality
  • Pro-active, independent and flexible
  • Interested to work and communicate with people from various backgrounds
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills including presentation preparation and delivery
  • Excellent command of English language, both spoken and written
  • Available for 4-5 days a week
  • Available to start February 2024 for a minimum period of 6 months. Preferably 10 months or more.

Our organisation

War Child is a medium-sized aid organization. The Department of Finance, IT & Risk Management is part of a Global Shared Platform, a service center that serves fundraising teams in Europe and the USA as well as field-oriented teams based in countries and regions affected by conflict. The Shared Platform is the result of a merger of the War Child organisations in the Netherlands and in the UK as per 1 January 2024. The first six months of 2024 will see quite a few activities to get things right. We try to keep an informal ambiance within our office in Amsterdam, with a lot of room for creativity, inspiration and self-initiative from employees. We try to practice what we preach: dynamic, innovative, integrity focused and a drive to reach the highest possible results against the lowest possible costs.

Our conditions

We are looking for an Intern Shared Operations who will join Team Shared Operations, from February 2024 for a period of at least 6 months, 4-5 days per week. As intern in War Child you can count on an interesting internship, with an opportunity to learn a lot. Of course you will get guidance, but also freedom to work out your ideas. You will receive an internship allowance of € 300, – gross per month, based on 40 hours per week.

Please note that War Child interns need to be enrolled as students at a Dutch educational institution for the duration of their internship. Please note that this internship does not suit students who are in their thesis writing semesters.
