Task description
Under the overall supervision of IOM Iraq Head of Protection Division, under the direct supervision of Protection Coordinator (Mainstreaming), the successful candidate will work to promote diversity and inclusion within the Mission, partnership and programming.
• Support the Coordinator in designing, implementing, monitoring and reporting on institutional activities and practices to promote diversity and inclusion.
• Provide strategic recommendation and advice to programme colleagues on promoting equality, accountability to affected population (AAP), disability inclusion and safeguarding.
• Develop risk assessment, protocols and procedures to enhance diversity and inclusion at the workplace, ensuring they are compliant with various IOM policies in support of the Coordinator;
• Contribute to developing key messages and talking points on promoting diversity and inclusion for meetings, webinars and donor meetings.
• Support the liaison with Regional Office and Headquarters related to diversity and inclusion.
• Design and deliver training to staff members and partners on diversity and inclusion;
• Research, assess, keep abreast of and advise on best practices and trends in safeguarding and associated issues • Undertake duty travel as required; and,
• Perform any other duties as may be assigned.
Eligibility criteria
Nationality
Candidate must be a national of a country other than the country of assignment.
Requirements
Required experience
3 years of experience in at the national and/or international level in protection of human rights, protection mainstreaming, safeguarding, diversity and inclusion or other relevant programmes; experience in the region is an asset, as is experience working in the UN or other international development organization; • Advanced higher degree (Master’s or equivalent) in a relevant area, e.g. migration, Political Sciences, Social Studies, Gender, Human Rights and Law; a first-level university degree or equivalent in combination with relevant training and/or professional experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced university degree; • Excellent oral and written skills; excellent drafting, formulation, reporting skills in English is required. Fluency in Arabic and/or Kurdish is an asset. • Accuracy and professionalism in document production and editing; • Excellent interpersonal skills; culturally and socially sensitive; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners, including grassroots community members, religious and youth organizations, and authorities at different levels; familiarity with tools and approaches of communications for development; • Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment; ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel; • Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.) and email/internet; familiarity with database management; and office technology equipment; • Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to work with tight deadlines; • Sound security awareness; • Have affinity with or interest in migration, volunteerism as a mechanism for durable development, and the UN System.

As this is an international UN Volunteer specialist assignment, the UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging his/her own housing and other living essentials. International UN Volunteers receive a volunteer living allowance to sustain a basic, adequate, and safe lifestyle. This allowance varies from one location to another depending on local living costs, but all International UN Volunteers specialists in the same location receive the same allowance. Below is a summary of the Conditions of Service. Allowances The purpose of allowances for international UN Volunteers specialists is to enable the international UN Volunteers to sustain a modest and secure standard of living at the duty station. The allowances are in no way to be understood as compensation, reward, or salary in exchange for volunteer work. Volunteer Living Allowance (VLA): All international UN Volunteers specialists are entitled to a monthly volunteer living allowance of USD 3,896.383 The purpose of this allowance is to cover the basic living costs of the international UN Volunteer. The allowance is to ensure that the volunteer can sustain a basic, adequate, and safe lifestyle.
