CIMMYT-Shandong Joint Center seeks an early career and self-motivated wheat scientist with demonstrated experience in molecular marker development, deployment, and high-throughput phenotyping platforms.

The position will be based at CIMMYT- Shandong Joint Center, Shandong Agricultural University, Tai’an, China.

Specific duties:

  • Lead and implement the CIMMYT- Shandong wheat molecular breeding program targeting the development of wheat lines with high yield potential, adaptation to reduced irrigation and high temperature.
  • Develop robust phenotypic selection criteria using remote and ground-based data.
  • Integrate molecular marker deployment strategies to assist selection.
  • Curate data, analyze, report, and publish results.
  • Contribute to research proposals and seek opportunities for new collaborations and funding sources.
  • Supervise, train, and evaluate technicians.
  • Co-supervise graduate students.
  • PhD in plant genetic breeding with post-doctoral experience, or other highly related fields.
  • Experience in high-throughput phenotyping, image analysis, and data extraction.
  • Experience in gene discovery as well as molecular marker development and deployment strategies.
  • Competent in statistical analysis and data interpretation.
  • Track record of publication in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
  • The selected candidate must exhibit the following competencies: Problem-solving and decision-making, client orientation, negotiation and conflict resolution, communication, and teamwork.

The position is for an initial fixed term of three (3) years, after which further employment is subject to performance and the continued availability of funds. CIMMYT’s internationally competitive salary and benefits include housing allowance, car, comprehensive health and life insurance, assistance for children’s education, paid vacation, annual home travel airfare, contribution to a retirement plan, and generous assistance with relocation shipment.
