Overview
Can’t Wait to Learn (CWTL) introduces new cost-effective solutions to the serious challenges children face accessing quality education in emergencies, through the development of innovative personalised learning solutions with a focus on serious gaming.
To date, CWTL has been implemented in Sudan, Lebanon, South Sudan, Jordan, Uganda and Ukraine. CWTL has been proven in all contexts in which it has been used (Ukraine pending) to significantly improve and accelerate children’s learning of foundational literacy and numeracy skills.
Can’t Wait to Learn is a digital, curriculum-based, context-specific learning application for education in emergency offering numeracy and reading curricula for primary grades 1, 2 and 3. Accessed on dedicated, preloaded, low-cost tablets and by application on personal iOS and Android devices played both on and offline. CWTL offers children a digital, self-guided education game adapted to context to support motivation and active self-paced learning.
Children can access it at home, in the community or in school settings. It has been providing children in conflict-affected areas a high standard of education since 2012. Maths and reading curricula are in line with national standards and endorsed by the Ministries of Education. The programme also offers training and support tools for teachers and facilitators in all implementation settings, and diagnostics for every learner to track learning progress.
The role
We are seeking an education professional to be our Learning Outcomes Lead. The senior technical lead in this role will support partner organisations and ministry of education staff working to deploy CWTL with the development of cost-effective, evidence informed and practical models of implementation that support learning outcome improvement.
This will include supporting the co-development of materials for partners working with teachers/facilitators, using evidence of impact to adapt models of implementation that drive cost-effective impact driven models of use to support large scale significant improvements in children’s foundational literacy and numeracy skills, whilst also supporting approaches that increase community accountability, buy-in, and promote the iterative use of data for decision making. This will involve supporting teams across a wide range of contexts and require a positive and dynamic approach to problem solving.
The Learning Outcomes Lead will play a critical role in driving the assessment, monitoring, and evaluation of learning outcomes within the Can’t Wait to Learn program.
The role can be based in any location where War Child Alliance has an office.
Your Challenge
- Working with partner organizations across the international education sector and within existing contexts to support the development of cost-effective outcome focused models of implementation of CWTL.
- Developing quality assurance models across the different implementation contexts in line with country-based curricula and with Humanitarian standards.
- Supporting human-centered co-design processes with partner organizations to understand the needs and goals of partners, children, teachers/facilitators, and community stakeholders that may benefit from utilizing CWTL.
- Working with partner organizations and research leads to test CWTL’s use/dosage and impact on children’s learning outcomes with a focus on foundational literacy and numeracy, and SEL.
- Working with partner organizations to evaluate user experience, learning goals and outcomes, and facilitator performance across implementation contexts.
- Developing/co-designing and implementing of clear, realistic and detailed plans for programmes, sub-projects and (development) trajectories.
- Setting learning goals and outcomes across implementation contexts.
- Consistently updating knowledge on trends and changes in the education technology (digital personalized learning) sector to support uptake of CWTL at scale across multiple contexts and inform CWTLs technical development.
- Developing and implementing strategies for data collection, analysis, and reporting on learning outcomes, including both quantitative and qualitative methods.
- Contributing to the dissemination of research findings, best practices, and lessons learned to inform programmatic decision-making and advocacy efforts.
- Support the Research and Development team at War Child and within partner organizations to test, adapt and iterate models of implementation of CWTL.
- Learning from and with national and regional education technology ecosystem actors, partners and coordination bodies in the contexts that War Child works, including the global education cluster, national and regional coordination bodies and beyond.
- Developing and updating implementation packages to support partners across a wide range of contexts, that are driven by an understanding of the learning sciences, cost-effective programming and child-safeguarding experience.
- Developing document evaluative processes and how input has been used to improve quality and value-for-money regarding the use of CWTL.
- Developing documents to support CWTL utilisation, with a particular focus on improvements and efficiency gains and cost-effectiveness.
Your Profile
- Relevant post-graduate academic degree or studies (education; serious gaming social sciences; International development, conflict, cultural ,or social studies, etc.);
- Extensive knowledge of education in emergencies programming (psychological support is an asset) primary school education and curricula;
- Track record in supporting stakeholders with education and education technology programming, at scale;
- Demonstrable experience collaborating with people from various backgrounds;
- Experience communicating technical education information to non-technical audiences;
- Experience in developing tools, programs/interventions and delivering training;
- Knowledge and experience in M&E and research;
- Previous engagement with discourse and practical activities around decolonization and digital colonialism.
- Strong planning and organizing skills;
- Capacity to manage multiple stakeholders and keep them engaged;
- Fluency in English required, French, Spanish or Arabic a significant asset.
Our Offer
- The following offer is based on a Dutch employment contract, actually conditions depend on the local office
- Salary range from € 4,180 – € 5,197 gross per month, based on 40 hours per week (the exact step determined by the years of relevant working experience).
- An employment contact with War Child for 40 hours per week
- 28 vacation days on full time basis (consisting of 26 vacation days plus 2 additional fixed free days, based on 40 hours work week).
- A pension scheme fully paid by War Child.
- Compensation for travel and work from home costs.
- Laptop to work from any location and monthly mobile phone contribution of € 25.
