The position is to be filled as soon as possible, with an initial contract duration of one year. There are very good prospects for an extension. Employment location will be home based with frequent travels to project countries.

As Logistics Advisor Emergencies & Operations you will strengthen Welthungerhilfe’s profile as an international (humanitarian) player by actively participating in international logistics networks. Furthermore, you will improve Welthungerhilfe’s ability to respond to major disasters in the area of logistics.

You will increase the visibility of logistics in the structures of Welthungerhilfe’s Country Offices to ensure compliance with existing standards, to guarantee harmonized smooth workflows and to implement clear and efficient processes. In addition, you will be expected to strengthen the cooperation on logistical issues between the various areas in the country as well as with other countries and with headquarters in Bonn, in particular with the Humanitarian Directorate (HD).

With your work you will make a valuable contribution to our mission by further developing Welthungerhilfe global standards, guidelines and approaches, ensuring coherence of program countries and projects with Welthungerhilfe global instruments, and positioning the organization in this specific field of work as competent, well-known actor in the field of development and in particular humanitarian aid.

Your responsibilities

  • Functional lead of logistics in the country of mission (with particular focus on emergencies)
  • Logistics tasks in major disasters
  • Analysis and adaptation of existing logistics and procurement processes (and in particular interfaces with emergency interventions of the organization)
  • Alignment to standard Welthungerhilfe logistic processes in the country of mission and compliance with existing internal policies and donor regulations
  • Active cooperation and solution development for the improvement of logistic processes (including the selection and introduction of software solutions)
  • Supervision and coordination of logistic and procurement processes at the Country Offices and as support for the projects (including warehousing and fleet) – active participation in procurement processes
  • Enable staff to fulfill logistic tasks as per their job description
  • Ensure the correct application and the use of the existing software and digital solutions for logistic processes
  • Provide orientation and advice to countries on logistic issues in Welthungerhilfe program and non-program countries
  • Capacity building: design, implementation and support of training courses for employees and partner organizations on logistic and emergencies, etc.
  • Creating/updating logistic best practices/guidelines/templates for operations in countries with and without Welthungerhilfe country offices
  • Participation in the extended Emergency Crisis Group for major disasters
  • Represent the organization at events, in committees and networks, contributing to discussions in cross-organizational networks

Your profile

  • A university/college degree or relevant training in a field commensurate with this position
  • At least 3-5 years of relevant professional experience in a logistics context
  • International donor experience (especially with german donors such as BMZ, GIZ, KfW) would be an advantage
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a multi-cultural environment
  • Affinity for working with new software / new digital solutions
  • Readiness to receive necessary vaccinations for working in Welthungerhilfe’s programme countries
  • Excellent spoken and written English and very good French language skills
