POSITION SUMMARY:
HIAS seeks a Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL) Intern to assist HIAS’s MEAL Specialist for North America Programs. The intern will support monitoring, evaluation, accountability, and learning for HIAS’s U.S. Programs, which serves refugees and asylum seekers in the United States, and Durable Solutions programs, which currently serve displaced persons in Latin America, Africa, and the Middle East. Through this internship, the intern will learn about MEAL methodologies and humanitarian programming serving resettled refugees, asylum seekers, and other forcibly displaced populations.
Note, this position is paid with a stipend of $900.00/month. We ask that applicants be available for 15 hours/week for 12 weeks beginning in June 2024.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assists with the planning and execution of data collection activities including surveys, interviews and focus groups.
- Supports data cleaning, analysis and visualization.
- Supports planning and management of training and learning activities for program teams.
- Contributes to building a knowledge management system for the North America MEAL portfolio.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
- Current graduate student in a related field, including program evaluation, data science, international relations, migration, public health, or public administration. Current undergraduate students with relevant academic/practical experience may be considered.
- Experience with quantitative and/or qualitative data analysis required.
- Familiarity with evaluation and/or research methodologies strongly preferred.
- Strong interest in program monitoring, evaluation, accountability to affected populations and organizational learning.
- Strong interest in migration issues and/or humanitarian programming.
- Must be resourceful, thorough and learning-minded with ability to work independently in a hybrid or remote setting.
- Experience with PowerBi and/or Kobo Toolbox preferred, but not required.
- Fluency in Spanish preferred, but not required.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills required.
