JOB PURPOSE
The Medical Doctor is responsible for the implementation of nutrition program activities with emphases on quality services, result oriented sensitisation, mobilisation, and active participation in all the areas of implementation
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Apply medical knowledge and skills in diagnosis and prevention.
- Participates in planning and undertaking nutrition surveys, rapid assessments, as well as in the monitoring and evaluation of the nutrition program activities.
- Ensures activities are being implemented accordingly and protocols and guidelines are always followed.
- Carry out outpatient and inpatient consultations, prescribing the necessary treatment while respecting National protocols.
- Follow up on the evolution of all ITFC and IPD patients, through daily visits, consultations, examinations, and rehydration reviews, prescribing the necessary treatment following MSF protocols. Decide – in collaboration with other doctors – whether they can be discharged or transferred to other departments and inform their families about the patient’s evolution.
- Conducts weekly data quality assessment, providing inputs and data for monthly Nutrition activities’ reports.
- Ensures the quality of the nutrition service given in all different locations meet the expected standards.
- Responsible for the day-to-day management of project site activities and staff (IYCF, OTP, SC, CHVs).
- Facilitates cross-sectorial programming, particularly to promote excellent communication and referral between IYCF, CMAM, FSL Programming.
- Ensures availability of materials, equipment and supplies and adequate management of the materials in all the area’s intervention; accurate record keeping, ordering and accountability.
- Provides technical & organizational support and trainings for the project staff, MoH and other humanitarian actors as necessary to promote consistent good practice.
- Participate actively in mortality reviews, clinical audits, continued medical education programs, lead and nutrition medical activities, antibiotic stewardship and infection control activities, and other medical-related activities of the project.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Professional requirements
- Relevant degree in one of the following areas: medicine, health, and nutrition.
- Minimum three (3) years relevant professional work experience, in the implementation of health and nutrition activities, with background/familiarity within Emergency Contexts.
Personal requirements
- Strong interpersonal and team-building skills and excellence as a team player.
- Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint presentation etc.)
- Strong sense of responsibility, methodical and accurate with high organizational skills
- Honesty and integrity and ability to cope with stressful situations.
- Flexibility & adaptability-Willingness to deploy to the newly liberated local government areas.
- Fluency in English, Kanuri, and Hausa will be considered a plus.
