Context & Mission

Médecins Sans Frontières is an independent, international medical and humanitarian organization that provides care to people in need, people affected by natural or man-made disasters, and victims of armed conflict, without discrimination and without regard to race, religion, creed or political affiliation (MSF Charter).

The primary goal of the mentoring program in MSF OCG is to support the personal and professional development of managers and coordinators in reaching their full potential. It will also directly contribute to the professional and personal growth of the employees by developing knowledge, expertise and know-how between staff. This program is in line with the Strategic Plan 2020-2025, which states that: “Employees as our most important asset”,

The specific objectives of the program are:

  • Provide mentoring support to managers and coordinators to enhance and strengthen key competencies.
  • Support the mentees in building their own capacities.
  • Create more space and enable more knowledge transfer within the organisation through dialogue and sharing of experiences.

At the end of 2022, the programme was expanded including a volunteer-based distance mentoring programme to increase diversity and accessibility. The program has evolved rapidly since its validation.
