LAW is an independent, non-profit organisation comprised of human rights lawyers working in fragile and conflict-affected areas in the Middle East, Africa, and South Asia. We have a particular focus on gender equality and sexual and gender-based violence, natural resource exploitation, rule of law and accountability, and transformative justice, working to bring justice to those who need it most.

LAW’s Myanmar Crisis Programme
LAW’s Myanmar programme seeks to facilitate meaningful access to and participation in justice processes for the survivors of atrocity crimes seeking accountability for their persecution in Myanmar. Additionally, LAW work with Myanmar national civil society actors to improve the quantity and quality of evidence of severe human rights violations that is collected, processes and shared with IIMM.
Where? The position will be based at LAW’s office in Chiang Mai, Thailand.
Duration? This position is funded and available for 12 months on a full-time basis with the possibility to be extended subject to funding.

Role overview and responsibility
The Programme Coordinator will ensure implementation of evidence-based interventions in LAW’s Myanmar programme, while ensuring a gender-sensitive and trauma-informed approach. The post holder will perform duties in accordance with the responsibilities outlined below:
Programmatic
- Oversee, support, and coordinate with the project team to ensure high quality programming with gender-sensitive and trauma-informed approach;
- Proactively engage with Myanmar stakeholders to advance the programme’s advocacy goals and informed protection delivery especially for GBV survivors;
- Support capacity building and training of LAW’s network of civil society organisations and identify avenues for innovative learning opportunities;
- Conceptualize, coordinate, and undertake community-based participatory research, surveys, and implementation of evidence-based programming;
- Support the monitoring of all project activities, in collaboration with management and accurate information management for reporting;
- Coordinate and submit monthly project progress and implementation reports;
- Ensure the programme activities are in line with LAW policies and procedures including; security, code of conduct and safeguarding.
- Provide operational support to the programme to ensure (planning, financial monitoring, M&E, safeguarding) and other support is available for implementation.
- Develop SOPs, and implementation of physical/digital security and safety procedures.
Legal
- Research support in preparing legal strategy briefs;
- Support in developing high quality legal documents including submissions, position papers, reports and legal briefs;
- Devising trainings, briefings on international law, refugee rights, human rights practice, and design related informative tools.
- Providing updates and analysis on key contextual developments.
Advocacy and Communications
- Support the implementation of the advocacy strategy and design products that can be shared with both internal and external stakeholders;
- Participate in coordination group meetings and workshops to identify avenues for knowledge-sharing and coordination for interventions, especially on GBV prevention;
- Coordinate within team to document thematic reports on programme activities that materialise LAW’s vision on community engagement and survivor-centred approach;
- Draft donor briefings with visually appealing stories to highlight LAW’s impact of projects;
- Support LAW hosted events: liaising with panellists, preparing concept notes, agendas, flyers, and circulating all to participants;
- Coordinate and ensure that website and social media content related to the programmes is up to date.
Fundraising
- Draft concept notes to expand LAW’s projects and LAW’s influence in its programming;
- Support the review, evaluation and the production of impact reports, and drafting donor reports.
People Management
- Support and manage the programme team effectively, ensuring high-calibre staff are recruited and retained;
- Develop work-plans, which ensure training and development opportunities;
- Support the Programme Manager and HR to ensure LAW is compliant with all relevant legal requirements relating to employment law, safeguarding, security, health and safety.
Any other duties as specified by the Programme Manager or LAW’s Senior Management Team.
About you:
- Bachelor’s degree in law; human rights, international law or related field;
- Minimum 4 years relevant experience, with a focus on international criminal law, or international human rights law, or refugee law;
- Demonstrated experience working with vulnerable individuals is essential, with experience in cases of sexual and gender-based violence preferred;
- Experience working across insecure or conflict-affected and fragile environments and demonstrated understanding of protection challenges within the region;
- Good understanding of protection and displacement issues in the Southeast Asian context, preferably the context of Myanmar;
- Proven knowledge and experience in implementing protection interventions, interviewing at-risk communities and gender programming is preferred;
- Demonstrated experience in project planning, design, monitoring and evaluation;
- Experience of managing variable workload, attention to detail and meeting tight deadlines;
- Track record of excellent drafting and communication skills, including fluency in English, fluency in Burmese is highly preferred.
- Excellent research and analytical skills;
- Active listening and analytical skills with ability to make sound judgment;
- Ability and skills to establish positive relationships with various stakeholders;
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Microsoft Word and Microsoft PowerPoint, and strong technical literacy;
- Travel to the regions will be required.
