Mission and objectives
The Economic Commission for Western Asia (ECWA) was established on 9 August 1973 pursuant to Economic and Social Council’s resolution 1818 (LV). Its purpose was to stimulate economic activity in member countries, strengthen cooperation between them promote development.
ESCWA’s objectives are to support economic and social development in member countries, to promote interaction and cooperation between member countries, to encourage the exchange of experience, best practice and lessons learned, to achieve regional integration and ensure interaction between Western Asia and other regions, and to raise global awareness of the circumstances and needs of member countries.
ESCWA provides a framework for the formulation and harmonization of sectoral policies for member countries, a platform for congress and coordination, a home for expertise and knowledge, and an information observatory.
ESCWA activities are coordinated with the divisions and main offices of the Headquarters of the United Nations, specialized agencies, and international and regional organizations, including the League of Arab States and its subsidiary bodies, and the Gulf Cooperation Council.
Context
This position is located within the External Relations and Communication Unit (ERC) at the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA). The ERC is responsible for overseeing both communication and technical cooperation initiatives conducted by the commission.
Task description
1- Provide assistance in producing communication material:
• Draft press releases and news items for the website;
• Draft media plans for major events and activities in coordination with the team;
• Meet with clusters and assess their needs;
• Identify and tailor elements for social media platforms;
• Assist in designing graphics and videos;
• Take photos and videos.
2- Produce media closeout reports:
• Monitor on daily basis the local, regional and international media outlets;
• Collect social mentions from different platforms;
• Prepare progress reports and closeout reports following major events;
• Keep track of interviews conducted with staff.
3- Expand ESCWA network of friends and influencers
• Search and identify influencers who are interested in the work of ESCWA;
• Enlarge the network of ESCWA friends and maintain daily relationship with all members;
• Prepare an action plan to involve the network of friends in ESCWA activities, whether by bringing them on board as participants or engaging them online.
4- Conduct trainings on social media:
• Assess the gaps in the use of social media;
• Prepare material for the training;
• Conduct trainings for small groups.
5- Perform other duties as requested.

Nationality
Candidate must be a national or legal resident of the country of assignment.
Requirements
Required experience
15 years of experience in traditional & social media is required.
Proven experience in public information work, including social media campaigning and reporting, is required.
Experience in an international setting is desirable.
Excellent drafting, formulation, reporting skills is desirable.
Ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners, including grassroots community members, religious and youth organizations, and authorities at different levels is desirable;
Familiarity with tools and approaches of communications for development is desirable.
Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.) and email/internet; familiarity with database management; and office technology equipment is desirable.
