Mission and objectives

The Economic Commission for Western Asia (ECWA) was established on 9 August 1973 pursuant to Economic and Social Council’s resolution 1818 (LV). Its purpose was to stimulate economic activity in member countries, strengthen cooperation between them promote development. ESCWA’s objectives are to support economic and social development in member countries, to promote interaction and cooperation between member countries, to encourage the exchange of experience, best practice and lessons learned, to achieve regional integration and ensure interaction between Western Asia and other regions, and to raise global awareness of the circumstances and needs of member countries. ESCWA provides a framework for the formulation and harmonization of sectoral policies for member countries, a platform for congress and coordination, a home for expertise and knowledge, and an information observatory. ESCWA activities are coordinated with the divisions and main offices of the Headquarters of the United Nations, specialized agencies, and international and regional organizations, including the League of Arab States and its subsidiary bodies, and the Gulf Cooperation Council.

Context

This assignment involves coordinating partnerships for a project aimed at enhancing MSMEs’ infrastructure and internationalization in the Arab region. The role includes organizing training programs, facilitating SME and policy maker participation in events, and supporting the development of an e-commerce platform to empower MSMEs and foster an enabling environment for their growth.

Task description

1. Identify potential partners for the project, including national partners, technical experts, and stakeholders.

2. Work with partners to organize and execute the regional Training of Trainers (ToT) program, ensuring effective delivery of capacitybuilding programs.

3. Coordinate with national partners to facilitate the participation of SMEs and policy makers in regional and global forums, including ASMES.

4. Assist in the collaboration with technical experts for the design and development of the ecommerce portal, ensuring it meets the needs of MSMEs.

5. Oversee logistical arrangements for national events, including travel and accommodation for participants.

6. Plan and facilitate annual inperson national events for policy makers in each target country to engage in dialogues, exchange best practices, and participate in training sessions.

7. Ensure continuous communication with all project stakeholders, including MSMEs, policy makers, and consultants, addressing any concerns or issues.

8. Assist in tracking project expenditures related to partnerships and event coordination, ensuring alignment with the budget.

9. Document activities and outcomes related to partnership coordination and provide regular updates to the project manager and stakeholders.

10. Evaluate the effectiveness of partnerships and collaborations, providing feedback and recommendations for improvement.

11. Enhance the visibility and connectedness of MSMEs by promoting their participation in regional and global forums and showcasing project achievements.

12. Work closely with national partners to ensure the successful implementation of capacity building activities and the development of an enabling environment for MSMEs.
