Its goal is to combat hunger and dangerous situations that threaten men, women and children. Currently 500 expats and more than 5,000 employees are working for Action Against Hunger in more than forty-six countries working in projects concerning four areas of focus: nutrition, health, food security and water and sanitation.

Nutrition and Health Coordinator

GENERAL OBJECTIVES:

Under the supervision of the Deputy Country Director (for objectives related to mission strategy and program design) and the Gaza Head of Base (for program implementation), the Nutrition Coordinator will provide the technical oversight to support the design, development and implementation of the organization’s emergency response and later early recovery programming in Gaza Strip. (S)he will be expected to support program design and implementation, manage program teams inside Gaza Strip and deliver training in line with global best practices and standards. (S)he will collaborate closely with the MHPSS Coordinator to develop a multisectoral approach in services provision. (S)he will represent Action Against Hunger (AAH) to donors, authorities and in Clusters and relevant Working Groups.

How to apply

Objective 1: Lead Nutrition Strategy development and program design

  • Provide strategic leadership with a focus on strengthening the quality of the Health and Nutrition (H&N) program, encompassing emergency response, preparedness, resilience, and early recovery.
  • Contribute to the development of multi-sectorial programming, including the country strategy, thorough understanding and contextualizing the links between H&N and other AAH key sectors (WASH, Food Security and Livelihoods, MHPSS), including cross-cutting issues and in particular gender, protection and conflict sensitivity.
  • Provide strategic and technical advice to program teams to develop creative solutions in the frame of the design, implementation and monitoring of H&N services.
  • Lead needs assessment and surveys (including SMART), to identify gaps, priority interventions and opportunities and inform program design.
  • Identify funding opportunities and lead proposal writing for new H&N projects, including budget development.

Objective 2: Lead implementation of Nutrition Programs

  • Ensure projects are implemented in line with donor proposals and requirements and in accordance with Action Against Hunger country and international standards.
  • Initiate and oversee needs and technical assessments and analysis.
  • Develop operational plans for beneficiaries´ selection in collaboration with program and MEAL teams.
  • Develop workplans and ensure implementation in line with agreed timelines.
  • Contribute with quality inputs in accurate reporting, according to AAH and donors’ guidelines.
  • Work closely with support departments, program teams and partners, oversee all logistical and financial aspects of program implementation, including budget development and follow up and procurement plans.
  • Support the selection of geographical areas/DES and other shelters and target groups
  • Conduct regular field visits to the project sites, ensure spot check of the activities conducted, and provide the needed technical support.
  • Support the H&N Heads of Project and Advocacy Coordinator to ensure the project experiences are capitalized and systematized through Advocacy and Communication campaigns.
  • Ensure cross-cutting issues (Gender, protection, conflict sensitivity) are mainstreamed in health actions in coordination and consultation with other technical departments.
  • Promote intersectoral coordination with WASH and FSL programming and strategies.
  • Support MHPSS mainstreaming and launching of activities through the established nutrition spaces, with a focus on identification and referrals of cases.

Objective 3: Staff management and capacity building

  • Participate in the recruitment process for direct reports, including developing job descriptions and technical tests and participating in interviews.
  • Line manages project teams, whose size and composition may vary over time (two Heads of project as a minimum, MHPSS Manager, daily labor).
  • Support and mentor project staff in the fulfilment of their tasks, providing technical support and supervision.
  • Provide technical assistance and oversight in the areas of needs assessment, program design, implementation and monitoring H&N interventions.
  • Identify capacity building needs for H&N team members and develop learning opportunities using the most appropriate approach. This may include the development and delivery of technical training sessions.
  • Contribute to the promotion of a correct and efficient information flow between H&N team members and other departments of the AAH oPT mission.

Objective 4: Coordination and external representation

  • Actively participate in H&N cluster meetings and relevant technical working groups.
  • Represent H&N programming at a technical level before donors
  • Effectively coordinate with external humanitarian H&N actors implementing emergency or early recovery interventions.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key H&N stakeholders at technical level, including donors, authorities and UN agencies.
  • Influence key decision makers on sound technical solutions to overcome H&N challenges based on evidence.
  • Contribute to advocacy efforts in H&N -related matters.
  • Act as the liaison between the Base and the Capital Office for H&N issues, providing accurate context inputs and updates to inform strategic decisions on one hand and mainstreaming AAH policies, procedures and tools to the field on the other hand.
  • Liaise with the health and nutrition technical departments in Headquarters.

CANDIDATE DESCRIPTION:

  • Degree and/or master’s degree in public health, Nutrition, Medicine or related topic.
  • Solid project cycle management knowledge Proved experience in proposal writing and strategic planning technical knowledge in implementing H&N emergency interventions required.
  • Infant and Young Child Feeding in Emergencies, Infant Feeding Core Group materials, MHPSS knowledge is desirable.
  • Previous experience in the humanitarian field as coordinator or program manager (at least 3 years).
  • Good experience in working with local and international partners, in implementing H&N interventions and capacity building for staff and partners.
  • At least 2 years of managing teams, whose size, composition and seniority may vary.
  • Previous related experience in IYCF or managing mother baby friendly spaces is desirable.
  • At least 5 years of experience in humanitarian settings. Previous experience or solid knowledge of Gaza context is desirable.
  • Desirable. Knowledge of other key AAH sectors (WASH, FSL) will be appreciated.
  • Fluency in English both written and verbal. Arabic (preferable but not required).
  • Windows, Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Power Point, SharePoint, Teams, Outlook).
  • Valuable prior experience in issues related to the promotion of gender equality or personal commitment to gender equality.

REMUNERATION PACKAGE

We offer immediate Incorporation into a multicultural, professional and innovative organization with the possibility of participating in projects with high social impact.

  • Contract Length: 12 months with possibility of extension.
  • Base: in Gaza (60%) with frequent travels to Jerusalem or Cairo (40%), if visa requirements allow. Otherwise, 40% of remote work is expected.
  • A compensation package estimated at 60,476 EUR gross/year consisting of:
  • Salary: 40676 € gross/year divided in 12 payments.
  • Difficult allowance: 4,800 EUR per year (Once the person is inside Gaza and not fixed. This plus is reviewable throughout the contract based on the applicable risk analysis.
  • Benefits package * estimated at 15,000 euros / year paid directly by the organization that includes:
  • Life, accident, health and repatriation insurance for the expatriate.
  • Emotional care service at the service of the employee and family.
  • Housing or similar accommodation.
  • Help with transfer or change of mission (depending on the duration of the contract).
  • Breaks: Displacements to the reference area, Per Diem of the break of 215 euros and travel allowance of 400 USD covered by the organization (depending on the number / year of breaks determined by the mission).
  • Refund of all costs related to departure on assignment: (visas, vaccinations,)
  • 25 days of paid vacation per year.
