We are currently recruiting a Philanthropy Director to join our Development and Communications team.
This is a remote position, open to candidates based in the US.

About the Opportunity.
You will lead a small and dynamic team to grow income generation, from a diverse portfolio of High-Net-Worth Individuals (HNWI’s).
This primary audience includes:
- Major donors
- Family foundations
- Planned Giving
Partnering with the Chief Development and Marketing Officer (CDMO), CEO, Senior Management Team and the Board of Trustees, you will work with RI’s existing donors, identify new prospective donors and work with the team on the development of a short, mid, and long-term strategy for income growth.
This strategy will build on Relief International’s existing donor base and activities that work to bring in revenue, grow RI’s donor file and grow our brand globally. You will work closely with the Communications Team to create a range of tailored proposals for major donors and create a strong case for unrestricted support. As an organization who provides immediate humanitarian assistance, in addition to meeting the longer term needs of communities in crisis, you will need to be flexible and adapt work plans when large humanitarian emergencies take place.
Your responsibilities will be
- Evolve and implement a short, mid and long-term strategy to deliver philanthropic and wider fundraising income to support RI’s mission.
- With the wider RI team, create and implement robust pipeline of new prospects including cultivation and stewardship strategy.
- Design and deliver unique opportunities to attract new supporters whilst championing RI’s vision and value proposition.
- Work across the organisation to develop unique value proposition, stories and compelling cases for support which will highlight RI’s work and need for support.
- Partner with the Senior Philanthropy Manager to innovate and develop new ways for donor cultivation
- Work closely with Communications team to make sure that fundraising tactics are supported and resources are built to tell our most compelling stories.
- Work directly with the Senior Management Team and Board of Trustees to identify and access new potential networks and opportunities.
- Establish, develop and manage an effective, high-impact fundraising-focused Development Board with an aim of identifying new potential supporters.
- Develop and manage a portfolio of key relationships with major donors ensuring robust donor development plans are in place to maximize giving.
About You.
You will bring the following experience and skills.
- Proven track record and understanding of the USA philanthropic giving with a focus on major gifts with a solid understanding of all other fundraising income streams.
- Strong people and change management skills with the ability to maintain team support and engagement whilst implementing new initiatives, products, processes and procedures.
- Excellent strategic development, planning and budgeting skills to drive continued growth and ensure targets are met.
- Experience creating and implementing multiyear fundraising and engagement strategy.
- Building strong relationships with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders.
- Able to plan and manage complex projects and relationships working collaboratively across a variety of internal and external stakeholder.
- Experience of using CRM systems (salesforce) for relationship building and financial planning.
- Understanding of fundraising landscape in the UK, Europe or any other regions would be an advantage.
