Reporting to: Program Director (1st supervisor) and Country Representative (2nd supervisor)

Aim of the position:

Support to the management of a UNICEF funded Child Centred Disaster Risk Reduction project in Sofala

Main tasks and responsibilities

• Management and coordination of project activities:
• Strengthen existing systems and institutions to better prepare and respond to address multidimensional risks holistically: disasters, climate change, public health emergencies and others
• Ensure that lessons of child centred DRR are regularly documented and communicated to not only inform project planning and implementation but also enhance better understanding amongst other actors including donors
• Together with the project team, planning and development of activities in the field;
• Lead risk assessments to identify the risks facing target children and their coping strategies;
• Support in the supervision and verification of administrative and procurement procedures;
• Coordination of activities with respect to the schedule defined by the chronogram;
• Drafting, revision and updating of technical documents such as: ToR, Financing Proposals, General Operational Plans etc.
• Development of relations with local partners and stakeholders involved in the project (institutions, donor, community);
• Development or support the development of AVSI project compliance documents such as: procurement plan, communication plan, MEAL plan, Appraisal for staff;
• Preparation of interim and final, narrative and accounting reports of the project to the donor and competent authorities
• Support for verifying the correctness of the administrative reporting of project expenses
• Coordination of monitoring activities

Essential Requirements

Education:
• Qualification: MA/MSC in Development, Disaster Management, Climate Change Adaptation, Environmental Studies, Urban Planning, Social Science etc.

Work experience:
•Minimum 5 years relevant experience of working with an INGO
•Minimum 3 years managing/supporting implementation of community based DRR assessment and/or projects;
•Previous work experience in the international cooperation sector in Africa or Mozambique

Language proficiency:
• Knowledge of foreign languages: excellent knowledge of the English language, Portuguese preferable;

Required skills and experiences

• Experience in Disaster Risk Reduction and Child participation methodologies;
• Practical knowledge on local disaster risk management planning process including development of the legal documents related to CCDRR;
• Experience in running training programmes
• Knowledge of Computer skills: Excellent knowledge of the main Office IT tools, in particular Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
