Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is a leading protection agency with a mandate to protect, advocate and promote durable solutions for displacement affected populations.

DRC has been operating in Ukraine since 2014, currently DRC employs over 800 staff in Ukraine and will continue significant scale-up in 2024 to implement emergency response in the Protection, Livelihoods, Shelter/NFIs and Humanitarian Disarmament and Peacebuilding (humanitarian mine action) sectors, using direct interventions, support to duty bearers and civil society organizations (CSOs), and partnerships with CSOs. DRC will continue and adapt its durable solutions portfolio to the evolving context.

DRC is currently looking for a highly qualified Protection Manager (GBV) for its activities in Mykolaivska and Khersonska Oblasts.

About the job

You will oversee the implementation of activities to prevent and respond to violence against women and girls in Mykolaivska and Khersonska oblasts. You will be responsible for managing and coordinating activities implemented by the GBV teams. You will provide specific capacity building and mentoring to the GBV Team Leaders to support the nationalization of this position. Activities implemented by the GBV team include GBV case management, psychosocial support activities, managing Women and Girls Safe Spaces (WGSS), awareness raising activities, and GBV trainings. The GBV team is also providing capacity building and material support to Government Social Services working in the sphere of GBV and wider case management activities.

You will be based in Mykolaiv DRC office, with field activities in Mykolaivska and Khersonska oblasts.

Your main responsibilities will be:

  • Coordinate, plan and monitor all GBV related activities, including GBV case management, awareness raising and the women and girls’ safe space activities, and capacity building, ensuring that activities are implemented in line with minimum standards and best practice.
  • Working closely with the Protection Manager and GBV Specialist, provide regular capacity building and mentoring to the GBV Team Leaders to support the development of their programme management skills and technical knowledge related to GBV.
  • Serve as the focal point for coordination with government authorities and represent DRC in coordination meetings related to GBV.
  • Serve as the line manager of GBV team members, this involving recruiting staff, completing performance reviews, and providing guidance and support to team members. Assess any training needs in the GBV team and develop capacity development plans for team members.
  • Develop and oversee project workplans for the GBV team activities, developing procurement plans and tracking project expenditure.
  • Produce quality reports and documentation on activities and ensure their timely submission to the Protection Manager for review and internal information sharing.
  • Support with the design and facilitation of GBV trainings for GBV actors and non-GBV actors.
  • Assist with the development of project proposals and budgets for the development of new projects.
  • Lead and support the GBV teams in implementing GBV assessments, including drafting assessment reports.
  • Ensure that the GBV team activities are coordinated with other sectoral activities, including General Protection.
  • Ensure compliance with DRC security protocols and procedures.
  • Any other duties as may be assigned by the or Manager, relevant to the achievement of protection objectives.

About you

To be successful in this role as a Protection Manager (GBV) we expect you to have minimum 3 years of experience in GBV prevention and response programming in a humanitarian setting, including GBV case management, women and girls’ safe spaces, and psychosocial support.

Moreover, we expect:

  • Master’s degree in Law, Human Rights, Political Science, Refugee Law, Social Work, Social Science, Psychology, Humanities or other related field.
  • Experience/knowledge in protection and/or Human Rights
  • Previous experience managing teams of more than 5 people
  • Previous experience in project management (including budget management)
  • Proven experience in capacity building and training of team members in both technical and project management skills
  • Experience working in security-sensitive environments and enforcing team security protocols is an asset
  • Proficiency in English (strong English communication and writing skills)
  • Good computer and IT skills

We offer:

Contract length: For national contracts open-ended; for expatriate contracts 1 year fixed term contract with possible extension subject to funding.
Band: F2 – management
Designation of Duty Station: Mykolaiv. Non-family duty station.
Start date: As soon as possible
