Program Summary:

Project HOPE is providing humanitarian assistance to the conflict-affected population in Gaza. The current response portfolio focuses on Health, Mental Health and Psychosocial Support, Protection, and WASH programming through Project HOPE programs and local partnerships.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Psychosocial Support (PSS) Officer will be responsible for implementing of PSS activities and providing guidance to the team of Mental Health workers and Social Workers. The PSS Officer must work in compliance with Project HOPE policies and procedures.

This position will be based in Gaza. Local Nationals Only.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Psychosocial Support and Capacity Building

  • Prepare and facilitate Psychological First Aid (PFA) sessions with cultural-appropriate materials in line with World Health Organization PFA Training Manual for Field Workers.
  • Design, Plan and facilitate culturally and age-appropriate PSS activities to strengthen positive coping mechanisms, with a focus on children and adolescents and youths.
  • Deliver PSS sessions using evidence-based interventions to targeted age groups; facilitate engaging sessions that encourage individuals’ active participation.
  • Ensure that all assessments, follow-ups and weekly and progress reports are completed in a timely manner.
  • Identify cases with severe mental health conditions and refer them for more specialized case management services.
  • Plan and participate in capacity building trainings as needed and required.

Program Management

  • Support the supervisor in compiling regular reports to provide information on activities conducted and topics discussed.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with all relevant stakeholders including other NGOs, civil society groups, authorities, etc.
  • Develop/contribute to developing and continuously updating a service mapping system detailing available services and assistance in our areas of operation and ensuring follow-up of referrals in a timely manner.
  • Support protection teams efficiently and confidentially referring cases.
  • Effectively adapt or develop, PSS data collection tools and resources to demonstrate progress and outcomes of PSS interventions.
  • Report on the number of individuals, participations, achievements, and new registration requests; update program and technical team on any issues, challenges or gaps in implementation.
  • Collect disaggregated data and ensure that all data collected is entered and reported in a timely manner.
  • Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree Social Work, Gender related studies, Psychosocial or Psychology studies or related area.
  • Two years minimum in a similar social job; experience with other NGOs, desirable.
  • Understanding of mental health and protection sector program design in humanitarian environments.
  • Community experience working with vulnerable populations on psychosocial interventions.
  • Experience in social services departments (NGOs, Governmental organizations).
  • Psychosocial support techniques knowledge.
  • Knowledge of and ability to develop/adapt and deliver PSS trainings and curriculum.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and commitment to humanitarian principles.
  • Flexibility and Adaptability: Adapts to changes in work environment.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Teamwork and cooperation and can cope with stressful workload.
  • Fluent knowledge of English and of local language (Arabic).
  • Essential computer literacy (word, excel and internet).

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be mobile in an office environment and able to use standard office equipment.
  • Must be able to communicate in verbal and written form and must be able to travel.
  • Project HOPE employees may be required to travel or work in countries where working conditions are classified as “hardship.”

Work environment:

  • This position is based in Gaza. Given the current conflict conditions, candidate must be able to work in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Position will be in resource-deprived environment with austere living conditions.
  • Travel for extended periods may be by air and/or other modes of transportation.
  • Project HOPE employees may be required to travel or work in countries where working conditions are classified as “hardship.”
