IMA World Health, a member of Corus International, is seeking a Public Health Technical Lead (PHTL) for the anticipated 5-year $19 million USAID-funded Strengthening Systems for Health Security Activity (SSHS) in Peru.

The purpose of this Strengthening Systems for Health Security Activity is to help Peru build robust capabilities in preventing, detecting, and responding to infectious disease and health threats to ensure national and global health security (GHS). This activity will operate at the national, regional, and local level; supporting Peru in developing and sustaining its own capacity to prevent, rapidly detect, effectively respond to, and ultimately recover from emerging infectious disease threats, allowing the Mission to reach Global, Agency, and Government of Peru (GOP) Global Health Security targets.

Founded in 1960, IMA World Health (IMA) operates in some of the world’s most fragile settings, centering its work on global health security, health systems strengthening, social and behavior change, and integrated primary health care support and delivery. IMA leads the global health portfolio at Corus International, an international development and humanitarian assistance organization that includes global non-governmental organization (NGO) Lutheran World Relief (LWR), technology for development company CGA Technologies, and impact investing group Ground Up Investing.

Summary of the Position

Based in Lima or another mutually agreed upon location in Peru, the Public Health Technical Lead will serve as the key technical expert and leader of the public health related components of this Activity.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and lead the technical approach to human health of this Activity, as it relates to Global Health Security and the three technical areas identified for this Activity: Zoonotic Diseases, Surveillance, Health Security Workforce.
  • Work closely with Animal and Wildlife Health and Environment Health Team Leads to provide technical support in the development, modification, and implementation of a One Health approach as it relates to GHS and the objectives of this Activity.
  • Introduce and contextualize globally recognized public health practices to strengthen Peru’s GHS capabilities to better prevent, detect, and respond to infectious diseases.
  • Work closely with the Peruvian government, other implementing partners, and national and local counterparts to set priorities.
  • Provide technical support to design and facilitate learning strategies (including training). This entails design, content development/adaptation, and delivery of effective learning strategies to positively impact performance.
  • Lead the team in synthesizing learning from the project for dissemination of results.

Actual hiring is contingent upon successful activity award and USAID approval.

Qualifications:

  • A higher education degree in medicine, public health, epidemiology or related human health field is required.
  • 8 years of relevant professional experience working in the field of public health, Global Health Security, and One Health is preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in public health and One Health, health governance,
  • zoonotic disease, surveillance, workforce development, and outbreak investigation and/or response are preferred.
  • Relevant experience in institutional strengthening of and coordination among multiple government agencies and other relevant academic and civil society actors preferred
  • Relevant experience working on projects with similar budgets and scopes and within the Latin American region is preferred.
  • Strong presentation, reporting, and communication skills (both oral and written). Previous research experience is desirable.
  • Excellent diplomacy skills and a proven ability to establish and maintain interpersonal and professional relationships with USAID, host-country counterparts, and representatives from other key stakeholders such as NGOs, CSOs, and the private sector.
  • Excellent English and Spanish oral and written communication skills required.
