The African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC) is an African-led and Africa based international research institute engaged in multidisciplinary, evidence-based policy research. Our researchers address important issues and challenges facing Africa in areas such as education, health, population, aging, urbanization and well-being. We engage with policymakers in the region to disseminate our research findings and influence policy decisions to improve the quality of life in Africa.

The APHRC invites applications for a Qualitative Field Interviewers to join the Evaluation of the Blantyre Prevention Strategy (BPS) Project. This study aims to assess how the BPS program has supported a coherent sub-national public health system capable of running a locally-led comprehensive HIV prevention response in Blantyre.

We seek to recruit highly qualified and experienced Qualitative Field Interviewers to carry out qualitative interviews for the Evaluation of the Blantyre Prevention Strategy study among selected respondents in Blantyre and Lilongwe.

Duties and responsibilities

  1. Recruiting participants based on defined eligibility criteria for qualitative interviews.
  2. Moderation/facilitation of qualitative interviews with selected respondents.
  3. Note-taking and compilation of comprehensive qualitative interview debriefing notes.
  4. Record interviews using digital audio recording devices.
  5. Any other related activities assigned by the supervisor and project manager.

Minimum qualifications

  1. Possess a bachelor’s degree from a recognized university in Public Health, Social Sciences, or other related fields.
  2. Previous experience in qualitative data collection among senior Key Informants in Malawi.
  3. Good knowledge of Lilongwe and Blantyre district (preferably living in Blantyre).
  4. Proficient in written and verbal English and Chichewa languages.

Priority will be given to candidates who:

  • Are ready and willing to work full-time on the project for the duration of data collection.
  • Are flexible and available to work odd hours (when necessary), under minimum supervision.
