Regional Safeguarding Manager

Malteser International (MI) is the international humanitarian relief agency of the Sovereign Order of Malta. For over 60 years we provide relief and recovery for people during and following conflicts and disasters around the world. In over 30 countries in Africa, the Americas, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East, we support people in need – regardless of their religion, origin, or political convictions.

To support our Risk Mitigation Team and ensure the regional implementation of the safeguarding approach, we are looking for two Regional Safeguarding Manager – one for the region Asia and English-speaking Africa and one for the region MENA, Ukraine and Francophone Africa.

The Regional Safeguarding Manager will support the Global Safeguarding Manager in the fields of prevention, detection, case management as well as trainings and workshops. They will support the development of required capacities as well as organize the complaint and case management. The Regional Safeguarding Manager will also ensure that communities and staff members are informed about and provided with feedback regarding complaints to MI and how those are managed.

Your responsibilities:

  • Identify risks, gaps and barriers regarding Safeguarding, Gender, Inclusion and Diversity within the respective region(s)
  • Streamline Safeguarding measures into country & location processes and structures
  • Ensure that Safeguarding measures are trained and implemented on community level
  • Conduct Safeguarding Audits in projects/locations on a regular basis as well as monitor and evaluate the complaint and response mechanisms in every location and within (partner) projects.​
  • Take the lead in case management of lower priority cases (e.g. sexual harassment, other misconducts) and support the
  • Global Safeguarding Manager in the case management of high priority cases (e.g. SEA incidents) globally
  • Develop, revise, and disseminate tools and training materials and provide training and refreshers for MI staff and partners

Your profile:

  • University degree relevant to the position (e.g. social and gender studies, law, psychology, etc.) or other relevant job training
  • Additional certificates in the field of Safeguarding/PSEAH and administrative investigations, community engagement, behaviour change communication
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience working in the field of Safeguarding and APP
  • Experience of implementing Safeguarding approaches, in conducting professional investigative interviews as well as in conducting (SEAH/Protection) risk assessments
  • Strong presentation, facilitation, and training skills and proven experience in developing and delivering training, workshops and awareness sessions
  • High flexibility as well as willingness to travel worldwide on short notice
  • For the region Asia and English-speaking Africa: fluency in English and at least one more dominant language from the region is required (spoken and written)
  • For the region MENA, Ukraine and Francophone Africa: fluency in French and another dominant language from the region is required (spoken and written) as well as a good level of English
