IRW’s Office of General Counsel Division is recruiting for the position of ‘Safeguarding Manager’ to join its dynamic team based out of its offices in either Birmingham or London. The organisation operates to a hybrid working model.

The Safeguarding Manager will help develop, shape, oversee and implement IRW’s global safeguarding framework and strategy aimed at promoting and embedding a working culture and environment rooted in safeguarding values and principles. Their responsibilities will include aligning policies with global standards and integrating safeguarding throughout all organisational divisions. The team is instrumental in upholding high ethical standards and prioritising the safety and well-being of all stakeholders associated with IRW’s mission.

The post-holder will strategically oversee and implement safeguarding case management and investigations within IRW, collaborating with Country Offices and, as necessary, with the broader IRW global network. The role will also entail providing capacity-building support to country programmes and strengthening survivor support mechanisms. Drawing insights from past cases, they will address safeguarding systems gaps and communicate crucial information to Thematic Leads and Programme Development teams.

The successful candidate must have or be:

  • Proven track record in national or international roles focused on Safeguarding or Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA).
  • Experience operating in humanitarian settings or similar international sectors, involving collaboration with diverse stakeholders, authorities, and international partners.
  • In-depth knowledge of sector trends pertaining to safeguarding, PSEA, and nuanced approaches to sensitive programming.
  • Experience of designing and delivering training sessions for diverse stakeholders, staff, and local teams.
  • Educational background up to degree level, complemented by a recognised qualification in safeguarding, preferably with hands-on experience in conducting investigations.
  • Cultural awareness and sensitivity, recognising the impact of cultural differences on safeguarding practices.
  • Proven expertise in leading and reporting on complex safeguarding cases and matters across diverse global contexts.
  • Successful track record of managing teams both in physical and remote settings.
  • Strong analytical abilities to identify risk, assess situations and develop appropriate safeguarding strategies and interventions.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proactive in supporting the development of the safeguarding team and fostering relationships within IRW and with external stakeholders and partners.
  • Ability to maintain professional standards and oversee sensitive safeguarding matters with a composed approach.
  • Proficient in processing, analysing, and reporting on complex qualitative and quantitative safeguarding data.
  • Ability to make sound decisions quickly, particularly in crisis or high stress situations.
  • High level of discretion and integrity in handling sensitive and confidential information related to safeguarding cases.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality while ensuring appropriate reporting and escalation of concerns.
  • Skilled in preparing materials and reports in clear and accessible English.
  • Competent in agile working, utilising case management tools, software, and other technologies.
