Under the overall supervision of the Senior Field Security Officer, the Security Liaison Officer will be directly reporting and responsible to the Field Security Officer
Responsibilities
Protective Services Operations: – Conducts close protection (CP) operations for a Senior UN Official; – Remains within the proximity of the Senior UN Official at all times and implements mitigating measures to preserve his/her security, safety and wellbeing; – Remains vigilant and alert in case of threat to the Senior UN Official; – Maintains effective and efficient security coverage for the working office and personal residence of the Senior UN Official; – Conducts protective services operations as outlined in the UN and UNRWA close protection policies and guidelines; – Conducts advance work and implement pre-established security arrangements; – Contributes to pre-deployment briefings; – Performs tasks as security driver, as and when appropriate. Administrative and training requirements: – Operates all close protection equipment to ensure equipment readiness; – Assists in training sessions on close protection subjects to keep abreast with current tactics and techniques; – Whenever necessary, supervises the designated UNRWA drivers in the performance of their assigned duties; – Contributes to making determination of equipment, facility and supply needs based on operational requirements. Coordination of CP activities: – Coordinates activities with relevant parties to include the Security Operations Room and other appropriate security actors as required; – Coordinates with local authorities during close protection operations.

Education
Successful completion of secondary/ high school certificate/ diploma.
Job – Specific Qualification
UNDSS Revised Close Protection Officer Certification (RCPOC) is desirable. Current UN Certification in firearms is desirable.
Work Experience
At least three years of professional work experience in close protection is required. Two years of relevant work experience and exposure at the international level in a conflict or post conflict environment is required. Unless already serving as an international staff member in the UN Common System, at least two continuous years of relevant international experience outside UNRWA and outside the country(s) of citizenship is required. UNDSS Revised Close Protection Officer Certification (RCPOC) (and will be expected for future advancement in this field). is desirable Comparable international, national, or commercial close protection accreditation is desirable. Recent (within the last two years) successful completion of an emergency trauma bag certification or equivalent of first-aid certification is desirable. High standard of physical fitness is desirable. Close protection of one or more principals, static and mobile protection, close protection command post operations, close protection response techniques, conduct of close protection training is desirable. Training in martial arts and/or specialized security practices is an asset and is desirable. Knowledge and understanding of Middle Eastern culture is desirable.
Languages
Excellent command of written and spoken English is required. Knowledge of Arabic is desirable.
Assessment
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.

Type of Contract and duration: 2 years, with the possibility of further extension. This is an internationally recruited opportunity. the incumbent may be entitled to a range of international benefits and allowances, such as dependency allowances, education grant and home leave. May be required to carry firearms and use force according to UN Use of Force Policy. The incumbent is required to be clean, neat and appropriately attired when on duty.
