Job Summary
The Senior Graphic Designer will lead in the design for the organization’s in-house creative team. In addition, the job holder will be generating new ideas and pushing design excellence across both print and digital media. She/he will work alongside content and program teams on deliverables that support marketing, donor engagement and other programmatic initiatives that span various platforms and audiences.
The successful candidate will be highly creative and organized, able to work in a fast-paced environment meeting quick turnarounds.
This is a full-time position that operates on a hybrid work schedule. Candidates must be available to come into the office at the Washington, DC headquarters from Tuesday to Thursday.
Responsibilities
- Lead design on all brand collateral across print and digital platforms, conceptualizing and executing high quality designs that engages AWF’s key audiences.
- Design and build prototypes of web pages, from complex sites to new components, that can be shared with various teams and stakeholders.
- Manage brand identity guidelines and build upon old styles that visually elevate the brand and express the organization’s vision and values.
- Support content teams in creating templates/mockups for marketing and fundraising campaigns that will run across social media, web, email, video, print and other channels.
- Design and layout high quality print publications and other print collateral for board members and high net worth donor audiences.
- Lead in color correction and preparing photos for print production.
- Manage and complete various design tasks that come into the department’s ticketing system.
- Assist in maintaining the organization’s photography and video asset library.
- Design, develop and pitch new brand concepts for use in global and local campaigns.
- Review existing processes, identify areas of improvement, and create solutions that improve design capabilities.
- Update and maintain internal databases for designs, photography, and video.
Requirements and skills
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in graphic design or related field.
- 4+ years of dedicated experience in a senior or lead graphic design role.
- A strong portfolio that shows mastery in design and brand identity, consisting of a wide range of styles and out of the box creative approaches.
- Highly proficient with Figma or similar software.
- Highly proficient with Adobe CC’s core applications, Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign in a Mac OS X environment.
- Strong understanding in typography, composition, and color.
- The ability to work independently and efficiently on multiple projects and with internal staff and outside partners/vendors is a requirement.
- Professional approach to the design process and time management.
- Keen interest or experience in Africa’s wildlife/land/people preferred, but not required.
