BACKGROUND
Marketing & Mobilization (M&M) is an international team that is tasked with building the IRC’s profile and brand, supporting the growth of private revenue from deeper donor engagement and partnerships, and influencing our target audiences. The team is responsible for all of IRC’s brand, communications, creative and content, and digital engagement efforts.
Digital Engagement (part of Marketing & Mobilization) leads efforts to increase IRC’s access to priority online audiences, attracting new supporters, and sharing a coordinated digital supporter experience. These elements are designed with the strategy of inspiring audiences to give more, do more, and stay longer with the IRC. Digital professionals include communications specialists, content creators, digital campaigners, and analysts. This department comprises a team of social media and web strategists and works across all functions in M&M. They deliver to the US, UK, Sweden, Germany, Brussels, South Korea and other global markets.
Job Overview:
As a new member of the IRC’s global social media team (within the Global Digital Engagement team), the Social Media Content Creator will produce short-form, straight-to-social videos and multimedia content for the IRC’s largest market that will grow the organization’s brand online, engage a loyal following, and ultimately help inspire audiences to give to or take deeper action with the IRC.
The Social Media Content Creator is a new role that will grow our social media channels, with a particular focus on TikTok and Instagram channels. The position will live within the IRC’s Digital Engagement team but will work with multiple collaborators—across markets, M&M teams and External Relations departments—and building content that can live across platforms.
The ideal candidate lives on TikTok, Twitter/X, and Instagram (especially Instagram Reels) and has a deep understanding of what makes content perform—while staying true to the international Digital Engagement strategy aligned with the IRC’s core mission and values. They will be able to leverage our client-centered storytelling and communications to illustrate the organization’s work in impactful, innovative ways and influence new audiences into becoming supporters.
They will have experience editing social video, creating graphics, and copy writing for social. They will have their fingers on the pulse when it comes to trends. And they will understand what types of content audiences find deeply engaging and shareable. They will also have an understanding of social analytics, both in terms of tracking metrics and quickly pivoting strategy or tactics based on data, as part of a “test, learn and optimize” environment.
Major Responsibilities:
● Create, produce, edit and post short-form video for the IRC’s global social media channels, predominantly Instagram and TikTok accounts
● Produce and create other forms of multimedia content, including but not limited to Instagram Stories and social media graphics
● Under the oversight of the Social Media Strategist, handle day-to-day posting and community management on Twitter/X, LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram and TikTok
● Collaborate across Marketing & Mobilization teams (Content & Creative Studio, Public Affairs, Entertainment Relations, Partnerships, as examples) to field requests, and ensure social media content reflects organizational priorities and IRC messaging
● Support the Social Media Strategist in monitoring the performance of social content and optimize for future execution
● Find opportunities and emerging trends to participate in, when it makes sense for the IRC and our goals, and bring a creative mind to brainstorming sessions to pitch new content ideas
● Support community management including but not limited to responding to questions and comments from the public and monitoring supporter activity across channels
● Champion client voices and ensure our outputs reflect the IRC’s gender, equity, diversity, and inclusion (GEDI) values and are inclusive and accessible
Job Requirements
Work Experience:
3-4 years of experience in a social media role from an agency, in-house or journalism video production
Demonstrated Skills and Competencies:
● Proven understanding of using social media—in particular Instagram and TikTok to build community and brand recognition
● Passionate about TikTok and the pivotal role of short-form videos online
● Proficiency in the Adobe Creative Suite particularly Photoshop, Premiere, and After Effects strongly encouraged
● Previous experience with social CMS and publishing tools, such as Sprout Social
● Digital storyteller and copywriter with strong attention to detail and the ability to produce compelling written content
● Experience successfully collaborating across teams with differing priorities and goals
● Ability to prioritize and organize own workload and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, ambitious environment
● Proven experience identifying and producing reactive content to trends
Preferred experience & skills:
● Comfort with and enthusiasm for being on camera or providing voice over for social video content
● Experience in Video Production, Film, Journalism, Communications, Social Media, Digital Marketing or equivalent degree or training
● Excellent verbal and written communication skills
● Ability to work both independently and in a dynamic, cross-functional global team structure
● Strong organizational and time-management skills
● Ability to manage and work through change in a proactive and positive manner
Working Environment:
This role may require working remotely full- or part-time (i.e., telecommuting). Applicants must have a home or alternate workspace where they can effectively complete their work from during regularly scheduled hours.
Compensation:
Posted pay ranges apply to US-based candidates. Ranges are based on various factors including the labor market, job type, internal equity, and budget. Exact offers are calibrated by work location, individual candidate experience and skills relative to the defined job requirements.
US Benefits:
The IRC offers a comprehensive and highly competitive set of benefits. All US employees are eligible for sick time, a 403b retirement savings plans: up to 4.5% immediately vested matching contribution, plus an 3-7% additional IRC contribution, and an Employee Assistance Program which is available to our staff and their families to support in times of crisis and mental health struggles.
In addition, full-time employees are eligible for 10 US paid holidays, 20-25 paid time off days, disability & life insurance, medical, dental, and vision insurance (employee contribution starting at $135, $7, and $5 per month respectively) and FSA for healthcare, childcare, and commuter costs. Part-time employees are eligible for a proportionate amount of paid time off. These additional benefits apply to employees who work at least 6 months within a 12 month time period.
